Greetings dear friends, welcome to my blog. Today I am once again joining the weekly contest Qurator's: Hive Top Chef! | Honey es. This week, the star ingredient in the kitchen is honey. You might think that, because of its sweet taste, it’s only good for desserts, but honey also pairs well with savory recipes—its sweetness creates a distinctly bittersweet flavor. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of that taste, but I decided to give it a try to experiment with something new in the kitchen and break away from my usual flavors for a bit.
This recipe is for honey chicken, but it doesn't stand alone—I paired it with mustard. Chicken with a touch of sweetness goes really well together. In fact, I first tried it with sugar back in my college days. When they told me we’d be eating chicken with that sugary twist, I couldn’t believe it, but they made it clear that “it doesn’t taste sweet at all” and that the flavor was delicious. I thought this combination was crazy, but I liked it and ended up making it a couple of times at home.

Mustard gives the chicken a delicious flavor, but when mixed with honey, the honey tones down the mustard’s tanginess a bit, creating a perfectly balanced flavor—an intense and delicious sweet-and-salty combination. If you haven’t tried this combination yet, give it a try—you won’t regret it.
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breast fillets (220 g)
- 3 tablespoons mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/2 cup cornstarch slurry (3 teaspoons in 1/2 cup water)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- Salt to taste

Preparation
1.- In a bowl, mix one teaspoon of paprika, one teaspoon of garlic powder, and salt to taste.

2.- Spread this spice mixture on both sides of the chicken fillets and sear them briefly in a skillet using a teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil. Set aside.

3.- In a bowl, combine the 3 tablespoons of mustard, the olive oil, and the honey. Mix until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

4.-. Add the honey-mustard mixture to the chicken and cook for one minute. Then, add the diluted cornstarch and cook until the sauce has thickened.

We served the honey-mustard chicken with a side of carrot, beet, and lettuce salad. It turned out delicious.

I hope you liked it, this has been my participation in Hive Top Chef competition. See you another time.
