Greetings, dear feathered friends. I’m back to participate in Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 281. A few weeks ago, I visited a community called Punta Brava, in San Juan de Cumaná, Sucre State, Venezuela, where raising farm animals is very common and you can see both domestic and wild birds.
Ducks, hens, roosters, and chicks were wandering all over the area looking for water and food. In fact, I gave some of the rice I ate that day to the hens that were walking near where we had lunch—which, by the way, was a little late. We sat down on some benches, and right behind us, my attention was drawn to an area that looked like a small plaza. As I was taking pictures of it, a pair of geese appeared—they looked really cute. The male was very restless, acting defiantly; he flapped his wings, stretched his neck, and made noises while his mate looked on with a look of amazement.
The female looked at him as if to say, “Why are you making such a fuss, man? Why are you fighting so much?” And maybe she added, “Are you trying to protect me? It’s okay.” The funniest part was the look on the female’s face—she seemed a little baffled by her partner’s behavior. What do you guys think?.
I took several photos of them; the first cover photo is the one I chose for the contest, while the others just give a little glimpse into the story as they were looking for something to eat and the goose was complaining. Although now that I think about it, there was a moment when the female also made a sound, but it was very brief compared to the male’s. The hens had already eaten; maybe they were complaining because they weren’t given any rice.

Saludos estimados amigos emplumados. Aquí estoy de vuelta para participar en Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 281. Hace unas semanas estuve de visita en una comunidad llamada Punta Brava, en San Juan de Cumaná, estado Sucre, Venezuela, donde la cría de animales de granja es muy común y puedes ver aves de corral y también silvestres.
Patos, gallinas, gallos y pollitos caminaban por toda la zona buscando agua y comida. De hecho, del arroz que comí ese día le di un poco a las gallinas que se encontraban caminando cerca del lugar donde almorzamos, por cierto, fue algo tarde. Nos sentamos en unos bancos y justo detrás llamó mi atención una zona que parecía una pequeña plazoleta. Mientras le tomaba fotos, una pareja de gansos apareció, se veían muy lindos. El macho estaba muy inquieto, con actitud desafiante, agitaba las alas, estiraba el cuello y emitía sonidos mientras su pareja lo miraba con cara de asombro.
La hembra lo miraba como diciendo “que tanto escándalo haces hombre?, porque peleas tanto?”, y a lo mejor añadió “me quieres proteger?, no pasa nada”, lo más cómico era la cara que tenía la hembra, se veía algo desconcertada por el comportamiento de su compañero, ustedes que dicen?.
Les tomé varias fotografías, la primera foto de portada es la elegida para el concurso, las otras solo recrean un poco la historia mientras buscaban algo que comer y el ganso se quejaba. Aunque ahora que recuerdo, hubo un momento que la hembra también emitió sonido, pero fue muy breve en comparación al macho. Las gallinas ya habían comido, a lo mejor se estaban quejando porque no les dejaron arroz.
