La resaca por el final del mundial ya está pasando, es verdad que se sigue hablando de la final pero con temas extradeportivos los cuales hablaremos en otra oportunidad, lo que quisiera el día de hoy es hacer una pequeña vista atrás de esas cosas que por lo menos a este servidor le llamaron la atención porque si, muy contrario a lo que yo pensaba y creo que muchos, al final terminó siendo un gran mundial. Las 48 selecciones no convencían a nadie pero bueno, vimos un buen espectáculo. Pero, ¿qué nos dejó? - hay muchas cosas rescatables y reseñables que quedaron y quedarán en la historia, veamos cuales podrían ser.

Lo primero es mencionar a Cabo Verde, para mi la selección sorpresa de este mundial. La única a la que la campeona del mundo no le pudo ganar además de que se fueron invictos porque no perdieron dentro de los 90 minutos los cuatro partidos que disputaron. Quien iba a decir que una debutante iba a dar tal espectáculo y muestra de entereza como esta selección. Y que si, estuvo muy cerca de haber eliminado a Argentina en los dieciseisavos. Sin dudas Cabo Verde se robó el corazón y el respeto del mundo entero al hacer un excelente mundial, mejor que el de muchas selecciones top. Pero si hablamos de sorpresas también se podría hablar de revelación y para mi esta selección fue la de Noruega. Tener a Haaland es sinónimo de goles pero no de buen juego y eso fue precisamente lo que demostraron, por lo menos uno muy ordenado y capaz de grandes cosas.
First, I have to mention Cape Verde, for me the surprise team of this World Cup. They were the only team the reigning world champions couldn't beat, and they went undefeated, not losing any of their four matches within the 90 minutes. Who would have thought a debutant would put on such a show and display such resilience? And yes, they came very close to eliminating Argentina in the round of 32. Without a doubt, Cape Verde stole the hearts and respect of the entire world with their excellent World Cup performance, better than many top teams. But if we're talking about surprises, we could also talk about revelations, and for me, that was Norway. Having Haaland is synonymous with goals, but not necessarily with good football, and that's precisely what they demonstrated: at least a very organized style of play capable of great things.
Los noruegos eliminaron a Brasil y estuvieron a nada de eliminar a Inglaterra. Siempre mostraron un juego muy particular y efectivo pero vuelvo a repetir, el orden en sus líneas es lo que me llevo de los vikingos. La gente esperaba de ellos pero no al grado de lo que terminaron haciendo. Seguimos y acá aterrizamos en la decepción del mundial. Para mi hay dos selecciones de las que se esperaba mucho más. Turquía y Portugal. La primera volvía a los mundiales 24 años después cuando hicieron una gran actuacion en el 2002. Yo era uno de los que pensaba que podían acceder de ronda pero nada que ver, culminaron últimos en su grupo y siendo derrotados por Australia. No mostraron nada, partidos pobres en donde Arda Güler fue el unico que dio luces dentro de una selección triste y apagada. Y Portugal es mi otra escogencia. Una de las máximas favoritas para llevarse la Copa del Mundo. La realidad es que nunca desplegaron un juego contundente, contra Uzbekistán fue cuando algo medio se vio.
The Norwegians eliminated Brazil and came very close to eliminating England. They always displayed a very particular and effective style of play, but I repeat, the organization in their lines is what I take away from the Vikings. The reality is that they never displayed a convincing style of play; it was against Uzbekistan that something somewhat promising was seen.
Le ganaron a Croacia sobre los 90 minutos pero perdieron contra España en un partido mediocre en donde los pasaron por encima a pesar de que aquello terminó 1-0. ¿CR7 estaba para ser titular?, ¿había cohesión entre sus jugadores?, ¿Roberto Martínez hizo un buen trabajo? - son preguntas que pueden que den una pista a lo pobre, para mi, que se vio Portugal en este mundial a pesar de tener a algunos de los mejores jugadores, línea por línea, del mundo. Para ir finalizando lo quiero hacer con el nivel individual visto. Mbappé con 10 goles para así ser el máximo goleador de este mundial y de los mundiales es una locura absoluta. Lo que da más miedo es que por lo menos le quedan 2 mundiales para seguir acrecentando esos números. Pero si hubo un jugador que se coló y el que si habría que reconocer es Jude Bellingham. Siete goles del inglés en lo que fue un mundial impresionante siendo, creo yo, el verdadero motor de Inglaterra en esta Copa.
They beat Croatia in stoppage time but lost to Spain in a mediocre match where they were outplayed, even though it ended 1-0. Was Cristiano Ronaldo fit to start? Was there cohesion among his players? Did Roberto Martínez do a good job? These are questions that might give you a clue as to how poor, in my opinion, Portugal looked in this World Cup, despite having some of the best players in the world, position by position. To conclude, I want to focus on the individual performances. Mbappé's 10 goals, making him the top scorer of this World Cup and of all time, is absolutely insane. What's even more frightening is that he has at least two more World Cups to continue increasing those numbers. But if there was one player who stood out, and one who deserves recognition, it's Jude Bellingham. The Englishman scored seven goals in what was an impressive World Cup, and I believe he was the true driving force of England in this tournament.
Creo que este ha sido de los mundiales con más goles, un poco obvio porque hubo más partidos, pero es que la media fue de casi 3 goles por encuentro. Al final y como ya lo comenté terminó ganando la selección que tenía que hacerlo por un tema de mejor juego durante el mundial y la propia final. Nos dejó también algunos goles espectaculares, no fue un mundial violento en líneas generales, el arbitraje creo que tuvo decente, con algunas excepciones claro está pero no hubo una mancha imborrable. Muchísima asistencia, personas apostaban al fracaso, por lo menos en Estados Unidos, en cuanto a este tema y la verdad es que los estadios se vieron abarrotados además de que a nivel de infraestructura son espectaculares. Lo unico negativo es la bendita pausa de hidratación, ese invento de Infantino para sacar más dinero. Terrible esas pausas. Pero bueno, la Trionda se ha detenido. Comienza la cuenta regresiva para el 2030...
I think this has been one of the World Cups with the most goals, somewhat obviously because there were more matches, but the average was almost 3 goals per game. In the end, as I already mentioned, the team that was destined to win, based on their superior play throughout the tournament and the final itself, ended up winning. It also gave us some spectacular goals. It wasn't a violent World Cup overall, and I think the refereeing was decent, with some exceptions of course, but there wasn't a single indelible stain on the record. Attendance was huge; some people were betting on a flop, at least in the United States, regarding attendance, but the truth is the stadiums were packed, and the infrastructure is spectacular. The only negative thing is the blessed hydration break, that invention of Infantino's to squeeze more money out of the team. Those breaks are terrible. But oh well, the Triondo has stopped. The countdown to 2030 begins...
