Los dieciseisavos de final de este mundial están siendo una absoluta barbaridad tanto por calidad, paridad pero sobretodo por lo agónico que están resultando ser los partidos en cuestión. Hasta el día de ayer se han realizados 10 partidos en esta fase, 7 han sido definidos de manera espectacular, ya sea con goles en tiempo de descuento, goles en prorrogas o peor aún, en tandas de penales. 70% de los encuentros han tenido que llegar al extremo para poder dar con el ganador. ¿Por qué pasa esto si en teoría en muchos de estos cruces hay o había un claro "favorito"?. Si que es verdad que probablemente de los más parejos fue este, el Holanda-Marruecos, pero que al final pasaran los africanos no es sorpresa para nadie.

Un solo partido, una sola jugada, un error, un estado de animo, cualquier cosa puede sentenciar o demarcar un resultado. Los paraguayos ganaron porque jugaron 300% con el corazón a diferencia de Brasil que durante su segundo tiempo estuvo buscando incesantemente la victoria hasta que Martinelli en el minuto 96 logra el gol del triunfo. En el futbol no hay un solo camino, al final todos llevan a Roma y es exactamente eso lo que ha hecho que este mundial lo veamos bajo la óptica de la agonía, porque cada quien usa los recursos que tiene (carácter, calidad, mentalidad, destreza o insistencia) y cuando estos se chocan pues los resultados son inciertos. Y claro, a todo esto hay que sumarle que estamos en una etapa eliminatoria de nada más y nada menos que un mundial; esto no pasa en partidos amistosos.

Un muy claro ejemplo de todo esto fue el partido de Inglaterra-RD Congo de ayer. Salta la perplejidad cuando vemos que el Congo le está ganando a los ingleses faltando 15 minutos para el final del partido. Todo esto a punta de aguantar, defender y hacer un juego irreverente. El tema es que existe un tal Harry Kane y que gracias a un equipo que juega para él lograron sobreponerse para en 10 minutos voltear el partido con par de goles. No se entiende como el Congo sostuvo desde el minuto 7 el resultado para después perderlo en casi diez minutos. O si se entiende: calidad e insistencia de Inglaterra. ¿Más agónico aún? - Senegal-Bélgica. Esto fue peor porque los africanos desde el minuto 24 estaban ganando, al 50 se ponen 2-0 y en los últimos 4 minutos del tiempo regular los belgas empatan. ¿La mente es tan poderosa que es capaz de derrumbar a un equipo entero? - pues, si.
A very clear example of all this was yesterday's England-DR Congo match. It's baffling to see Congo beating England with 15 minutes left in the game. All this thanks to holding on, defending, and playing an audacious style. The thing is, there's a certain Harry Kane, and thanks to a team that plays for him, they managed to turn the game around in 10 minutes with a couple of goals. It's incomprehensible how Congo held the lead from the 7th minute only to lose it in almost ten minutes. Or perhaps it is: England's quality and persistence. Even more agonizing? Senegal-Belgium. This was worse because the Africans were winning from the 24th minute, went 2-0 up by the 50th, and then the Belgians equalized in the last 4 minutes of regulation time. Is the mind so powerful that it can bring down an entire team? Well, yes.
Te empatan en el ocaso del partido y te lo ganan en los segundos finales de la prorroga. La derrota no fue solo en el mercador sino a nivel mental. Agonía puede que sea sinónimo de igualdad en cancha, de que sin importar cuales sean las herramientas son dos selecciones peleando como mejor lo sepan hacer. Puede que no lo hayamos visto todo todavía pero sin dudas estamos ante una ronda de eliminatorias espectacular. Pensar que ni quiera hemos llegado a los octavos de final. Lo vuelvo a admitir, hasta los momentos en líneas generales está siendo un gran mundial. Creo que la agonía la seguiremos viviendo, hoy puede ser un día de emociones duras.
