Hace aproximadamente una semana se dieron a conocer las nominaciones para los premios Emmy que se celebrarán dentro de dos meses, el 14 de septiembre. Se sabe que los premios en los últimos años han perdido mucho auge porque simplemente a las personas les dejaron de importar, sin embargo ese rechazo creo que se ve más enfocado hacia los Oscars, no lo veo tanto hacia estos premios. La realidad es que hay cosas interesantes con los nominados y hoy vamos a hablar de lo más interesante de toda esta lista.
About a week ago, the Emmy nominations were announced. The awards ceremony will take place in two months, on September 14th. It's well known that these awards have lost a lot of their appeal in recent years because people simply stopped caring about them. However, I think that decline is more focused on the Oscars; I don't see it as much with these awards. The truth is, there are some interesting things among the nominees, and today we're going to talk about the most interesting ones on this list.
Comencemos quizás con el premio más importante: mejor serie dramática. Acá la competencia está seriamente reñida porque tenemos a The Pitt que nunca bajó la calidad en su segunda temporada; Paradise que no se habla mucho de ella pero es una gran serie; Pluribus que vino siendo la novedad este año, la serie de Vince Gilligan y que es realmente buena y desconcertante y para mi una sorpresa en estas nominaciones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Por ahí están The Diplomat y Slow Horses que no defraudan pero que lamentablemente no veremos nunca ganar estos premios. Irme con un ganador es complicado porque hay mucha calidad pero creo que la pelea estará entre Pluribus y The Pitt. Es de lo más top del año. Ahora, si nos vamos a la categoría de comedia para mi la cosa está un poco más clara.
Let's start with perhaps the most important award: best drama series. Here, the competition is seriously fierce because we have The Pitt, which never dropped in quality in its second season; Paradise, which isn't talked about much but is a great series; Pluribus, which has been the breakout hit this year, Vince Gilligan's series, which is truly good and unsettling; and, for me, a surprise in these nominations, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Then there's The Diplomat and Slow Horses, which don't disappoint but which, unfortunately, we'll never see win these awards. Picking a winner is difficult because there's so much quality, but I think the fight will be between Pluribus and The Pitt. It's one of the best shows of the year. Now, if we move on to the comedy category, for me, things are a bit clearer.
Una de las grandes maravillas de este 2026 es sin dudas Widow's bay, la serie de Apple TV. Espero que esta sea la competidora directa contra The Bear, que ya ha perdido fuerza; Hacks o incluso Only Murders in the Building. La manera en como combina el terror con la comedia es increíble, es un humor muy suave, irónico y hasta incomodo a veces pero que pega a la perfección con el horror que supone vivir en esa isla. Dicho esto creo que esta serie será o debería de ser la ganadora de este año. Pero estas series no son nada sin sus actores. En la parte dramática tengo dos candidatos: que Noah Wyle repita con The Pitt o que Mark Ruffalo con Task se lo termine llevando. Esto lo digo porque no veo a ninguno de los otros tres nominados ganándoles a estos dos actores. Task es una tremenda serie y el trabajo de Ruffalo, aunque como persona lo deteste, es bastante bueno.
One of the great wonders of 2026 is undoubtedly Widow's Bay, the Apple TV series. I hope it's a direct competitor to The Bear, which has already lost momentum; Hacks; or even Only Murders in the Building. The way it combines horror with comedy is incredible; it's a very subtle, ironic, and sometimes even uncomfortable humor that perfectly complements the horror of living on that island. That said, I think this series will be, or should be, this year's winner. But these series are nothing without their actors. In the drama category, I have two candidates: Noah Wyle winning again with The Pitt, or Mark Ruffalo taking home the award for Task. I say this because I don't see any of the other three nominees beating these two actors. Task is a tremendous series, and Ruffalo's performance, even though I personally dislike him, is quite good.
Con las actrices para mi está muy claro pero me gustaron un par de cosas. Este premio es de Rhea Seehorn sin dudas, lo de ella en Pluribus es top. Algo que me llamo la atención es ver la nominación de Chase Infiniti por The Testaments (serie super recomendada), no lo esperaba y si bien no está a la altura de las demás hay que decir que es muy cool que se le reconozca el trabajo que hizo. Zendaya en Euphoria también hay que reconocerlo aunque la temporada final no haya sido lo mejor. Pero si, Rhea Seehorn será la ganadora acá. A nivel de comedia en la parte femenina estoy perdido, lo de Elle Fanning en Margo’s Got Money Troubles es buenísimo y es lo unico que he visto. Con lo hombres mismo tema, creo que el ganador será Matthew Rhys con Widow’s Bay.
With the actresses, it's pretty clear to me, but I did like a couple of things. This award definitely belongs to Rhea Seehorn; her performance in Pluribus is top-notch. Something that caught my attention was Chase Infiniti's nomination for The Testaments (a highly recommended series). I wasn't expecting it, and while it's not quite up to par with the others, it's really cool that his work is being recognized. Zendaya in Euphoria also deserves recognition, even though the final season wasn't the best. But yes, Rhea Seehorn will be the winner here. As for the female comedy categories, I'm a bit lost. Elle Fanning's performance in Margo's Got Money Troubles is fantastic, and it's the only one I've seen. Same with the men; I think the winner will be Matthew Rhys with Widow's Bay.
Ya hablando de nominaciones de menor envergadura hay una mini serie que vi hace un tiempo y me sorprende que esté nominada par de veces porque me confirma que en efecto es muy buena: "All her fault". Está nominada como mejor miniserie y en la categoría de mejor actriz principal para miniserie (Sarah Snook). A los que no hayan visto esa miniserie es realmente una locura y se las recomiendo bastante, los plot twist son demenciales. Al final vemos que The Pitt es la serie más nominada con 25 nominaciones, Hacks con 24, Widow’s Bay con 19 y Pluribus con 18. Creo que allí se condensan los ganadores, ¿puede que hayan sorpresas?, puede pero no lo creo. La verdad es que este año a nivel de series ha sido muy bueno, grandes estrenos, grandes continuaciones por lo que creo que veremos unos Emmy justos.
Speaking of smaller nominations, there's a miniseries I watched a while ago that surprised me with its two nominations, confirming its quality: "All Her Fault." It's nominated for Best Miniseries and Best Lead Actress in a Miniseries (Sarah Snook). For those who haven't seen it, it's truly amazing, and I highly recommend it; the plot twists are insane. Ultimately, The Pitt leads the nominations with 25, followed by Hacks with 24, Widow's Bay with 19, and Pluribus with 18. I think the winners are pretty much in the mix. Could there be some surprises? Maybe, but I doubt it. Honestly, this year has been fantastic for television series, with great premieres and continuations, so I think we'll see a fair Emmy Awards ceremony.
