Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.

The title of this review might sound shocking, especially to Spain fans, but I simply couldn't find any other adjectives to describe what yesterday's match turned out to be. A World Cup final is probably the most anticipated match in four years; the excitement of seeing the two most powerful teams face off to decide who will rule the world for the next few years is incredible. Unfortunately, yesterday we didn't see that. Personally, I was expecting a great match, one that had been on hold since March and was finally going to be played, but in the end, we had to settle for a one-sided affair, a match where only one team existed.
It's true that beforehand it was already known that Spain's game was far superior to Argentina's, but despite that, it was expected that at least the drive, the desire, the grit, and the heart we saw from the Albiceleste in past matches, or some of the quality shown against England in that second half, would surface yesterday afternoon in New Jersey. It wasn't to be. Neither heart nor quality. On the other hand, Spain had just overwhelmed France with astonishing ease, hence their slight favoritism. And yes, what they showed on the field was exactly as expected; they confirmed that favoritism with possession, control, dominance, and solidity in all areas. They may have lacked a bit of clinical finishing, but it must be acknowledged that Dibu Martínez made some excellent saves; if it weren't for him, Argentina wouldn't have conceded at least four goals.

That Argentina didn't manage a single shot on goal in 120 minutes of play was, and still is, inexplicable to me. That Lautaro Martínez didn't play is inexplicable. Certainly, injuries disrupt the team's movements and substitutions, but it's still striking. To talk about the Argentine midfield is to say that nothing worked. De Paul, Mac Allister, and Nico González, in my opinion, were a complete disaster; they never performed as expected, neither yesterday nor throughout the entire World Cup. Enzo Fernández's performance was rookie-level and childish; if he already has a yellow card, he shouldn't have come on the way he did. Molina came on, and it was down his side that Ferran scored, so yes, Nahuel Molina had another disappointing performance. Sadly, Messi can't do it all. When the number 10 got the ball, that's when there was a spark, but I repeat, he can't do it alone.
Spain, taking advantage of Argentina's passivity, put on a phenomenal display. Rodri was once again the midfield maestro we hadn't seen in so long; Cubarsí and Porro were two walls in defense, and Cucurella on the other flank proved to be a constant thorn in their side. The problem here is that it was a lopsided match, devoid of excitement, good play, or any real back-and-forth action; just a semblance of resistance from Argentina while Spain passed the ball around. And excuse me, but a match like this is far from enjoyable. When the question isn't who will win, but rather when a certain team, in this case Spain, is finally going to score the goal they've been searching for all game, that's when we realize how boring and monotonous the whole thing was. And it's a shame because I'm sure even the most die-hard Spanish fans would have preferred a different kind of match.

Would a penalty shootout have yielded a different result? - Most likely, yes, and I have no doubt that this was the scenario Scaloni and his team were aiming for. Spain leaves with two stars on their chests, a very deserving champion. The winner was either Spain or France, and in the end, it was De La Fuente's team, a coach who hasn't lost a single tournament he's been involved in. This will open the debate about whether Lamine Yamal deserves the Ballon d'Or or if another Spanish player should. Personally, it hurt to see Messi cry, but what he gave to this generation is immense, and that's what he should remember. We don't know if he'll continue playing for the national team; we'll find out eventually. But yes, yesterday's match was the last World Cup game for the greatest player of all time. Spain's victory was extremely well-deserved. This group of players is top-tier, and most importantly, they are young, so their future is incredibly bright. Conclusion: A tremendous match, a deserved winner.
