Este mes de junio es uno que está siendo caracterizado por los estrenos de series importantes, ya lo hizo The Boys son su cuarta temporada y ahora le toca el turno a la antecesora de Game of Thrones, esta que nos hace elegir entre un bando verde y el otro negro. Las expectativas al inicio de esta nueva temporada eran altas, de hecho lo siguen siendo porque este universo creado por George R. R. Martin es increíble, tener la capacidad de crear historias en donde la política, la guerra, la familia y el amor vayan de la mano de figuras fantasiosas como Syrax, Caraxes o Dreamfyre en lo personal lo considero único e impresionante.
This month of June is one that is being characterized by the premieres of important series, The Boys already did it with its fourth season and now it is the turn of the predecessor of Game of Thrones, this one that makes us choose between a green side and the other black. The expectations at the beginning of this new season were high, in fact they still are because this universe created by George R. R. Martin is incredible, having the ability to create stories where politics, war, family and love go hand in hand with fantasy figures such as Syrax, Caraxes or Dreamfyre I personally consider it unique and impressive.
Esta segunda temporada comienza con una guerra a las puertas, una guerra por el trono que significará o dará paso a todo lo que conocemos. Hay muchas personas que obviamente se han leído los libros y saben lo que van a pasar, el tema acá es que no saben el cómo va a pasar porque se ha demostrado a lo largo de GOT y de la primera temporada de HOTD que ciertos sucesos no ocurren de la misma forma; un ejemplo de esto es lo ocurrido al final del primer capítulo con el hijo del rey, en los libros pasa de una forma pero en la serie es completamente distinto. Por lo que si, a pesar de saber un poco por donde vas las flechas la realidad es que todos estamos ciegos ante lo que se viene.
This second season begins with a war at the gates, a war for the throne that will mean or give way to everything we know. There are many people who have obviously read the books and know what will happen, the issue here is that they do not know how it will happen because it has been shown throughout GOT and the first season of HOTD that certain events do not occur in the same way; an example of this is what happened at the end of the first chapter with the son of the king, in the books it happens in one way but in the series is completely different. So yes, despite knowing a bit where the arrows are going the reality is that we are all blind to what is coming.
Pero bueno, que hemos visto hasta ahora? - como comenté la guerra es inminente pero para ello hay que asentar las bases para una victoria sólida ya sea a través de la provocación o por medio de la diplomacia y movimientos políticos. En los dos primeros episodios se ha visto un poco de las dos, más de lo primero porque tenemos a un rey muy emocional, iracundo y novato que piensa que todo se resuelve escupiendo fuego con los dragones. El tema es que hay ciertas dudas con su nombramiento por lo que el reino está dividido entre él y Rhaenyra Targaryen así que el joven aprendiz de rey tendrá un camino complicado.
But well, what have we seen so far? - As I said the war is imminent but for that we have to lay the foundations for a solid victory either through provocation or through diplomacy and political moves. In the first two episodes we have seen a bit of both, more of the former because we have a very emotional, irate and novice king who thinks that everything is solved by spitting fire with the dragons. The thing is that there are certain doubts with his appointment so the kingdom is divided between him and Rhaenyra Targaryen so the young apprentice king will have a complicated path.
Por el otro lado tenemos a Rhaenyra quien es más precavida y discreta, sabe que por derecho el trono es suyo pero imagino buscará la forma menos pomposa de llegar a él. La cosa es que alrededor de ambos hay personajes con visiones diferentes y formas distintas de hacer las cosas, ya hemos visto a Otto y Alicent Hightower y a Daemon actuar por lo que no nos queda claro cuál será la ruta final. En estos dos primeros capítulos ya hemos visto par de hechos que van a ser los catalizadores de lo próximo a llegar, lo del hijo del rey y el desacuerdo de Otto con Aegon. Creo que estas decisiones pueden que desaten lo que será el preámbulo de algo sin retorno.
On the other side we have Rhaenyra who is more cautious and discreet, she knows that by right the throne is hers but I imagine she will look for the least pompous way to get to it. The thing is that around both there are characters with different visions and different ways of doing things, we have already seen Otto and Alicent Hightower and Daemon act so it is not clear to us what the final route will be. In these first two chapters we have already seen a couple of events that are going to be the catalysts for the next thing to come, the king's son and Otto's disagreement with Aegon. I think these decisions may unleash what will be the preamble to something with no return.
Lo que me sigue gustando de esto es todo el entramado que se va formando alrededor de los personajes, esas conversaciones secretas, conspiraciones, traiciones; todo para garantizar el éxito personal de cada quien porque es eso, esto es una lucha de poder en donde cada quien vela por si mismo. Hay mucho egoísmo que a su vez deriva en violencia y que finalmente termina en dolor e impotencia. Seguimos teniendo esa maldad pasiva-agresiva, si es que esto existe, que caracteriza a casi todos los personajes y que marca un poco sus personalidades. Obviamente lo peor está por venir pero hasta ahora no defrauda, de hecho el segundo capítulo es una joya total. Egos y conspiraciones en su máxima expresión.
What I still like about this is the whole framework that is formed around the characters, those secret conversations, conspiracies, betrayals; all to ensure the personal success of each one because that's what it is, this is a power struggle where everyone looks out for himself. There is a lot of selfishness that in turn leads to violence and finally ends in pain and impotence. We still have that passive-aggressive evil, if it exists, that characterizes almost all the characters and that marks their personalities a bit. Obviously the worst is yet to come but so far it does not disappoint, in fact the second chapter is a total gem. Egos and conspiracies at their best.
Los personajes son un éxito total. Lo digo porque el día de ayer se supo que Fabien Frankel, quien hace de Criston Cole, recibió un poco de hate en redes sociales por su desempeño en este segundo episodio. Decir que la gente es estúpida al no saber diferenciar algo real con lo ficticio pero al mismo tiempo nos muestra que tanto los guionistas, escritores como el propio actor están haciendo un trabajo de diez. Creo que hasta ahora el MVP de la temporada es Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), este joven nos está dando actuaciones y escenas muy buenas las cuales aspiro que las continúe haciendo mientras el papel se lo permita.
The characters are a total success. I say this because yesterday it was known that Fabien Frankel, who plays Criston Cole, received some hate on social networks for his performance in this second episode. Saying that people are stupid for not knowing how to differentiate something real with the fictional but at the same time it shows us that both the scriptwriters, writers and the actor himself are doing a ten job. I think that so far the MVP of the season is Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), this young man is giving us very good performances and scenes which I hope he continues to do as long as the role allows it.
Las interacciones de Otto en manos de Rhys Ifans son oro también, creo que él es la balanza entre la diplomacia y la barbarie, no se si ha sido la mejor Mano del Rey pero sin dudas su papel es clave, no se si después de este segundo episodio lo siga siendo pero hasta ahora muy top. De resto casi todos siguen en su línea, asumo que conforme vayan pasando los capítulos veremos un desarrollo más profundo de todo pero por los momentos hay una tensa calma antes de las tormenta.
Otto's interactions in the hands of Rhys Ifans are gold too, I think he is the balance between diplomacy and barbarism, I don't know if he has been the best Hand of the King but without a doubt his role is key, I don't know if after this second episode he will continue to be but so far very top. I assume that as the chapters go by we will see a deeper development of everything but for the moment there is a tense calm before the storm.
Ya está confirmada la tercera temporada por lo que no se si lleguemos a ver un desenlace total y definitivo en esta segunda, es posible que todo se complique y haya fuego y sangre por todos lados pero dudo que sea lo más agresivo que veremos de la serie entendiendo que HOTD no será de muchas temporadas.
The third season is already confirmed so I don't know if we will see a total and definitive denouement in this second one, it is possible that everything gets complicated and there will be fire and blood everywhere but I doubt it will be the most aggressive thing we will see in the series, understanding that HOTD will not last many seasons.
