Todo lo que tiene que ver con los superhéroes desde hace unos cuantos años pareciera que está en una popularidad bastante baja, la gente no quiere saber más nada de este género gracias a las cosas de tan baja calidad que se han hecho últimamente. Afortunadamente todavía queda un rayo de luz, que se va a apagar pronto, pero luz al fin ya que The Boys llegó hace 5 años para darle otra cara a todo este mundo y que después de cuatro temporadas va a llegar a su fin porque si, estamos ante la despedida de todos estos desadaptados. La semana pasada se estrenó dicha temporada final con tres episodios y el día de hoy quisiera hablarles un poco lo que me parecieron y que pudiéramos esperar con los cinco capítulos restantes.
Everything that has to do with superheroes since a few years ago seems to be in a pretty low popularity, people do not want to know anything more of this genre thanks to the low quality things that have been done lately. Fortunately there is still a ray of light, which will go out soon, but light at last since The Boys came 5 years ago to give another face to this whole world and after four seasons we are at the gates of the end. Last week the season premiered with three episodes and today I would like to tell you a little about what I thought of them and what we can expect with the remaining five episodes.
Como bien saben The Boys no es una historia netamente de superhéroes, si, hay personas con poderes y todo el asunto pero en realidad la trama gira en torno al lado negativo de estos tipos, como pueden ser en realidad detrás de todos los focos. Esta serie se ha caracterizado por ser disruptiva, gráfica, sin tapujos, sin censura, con un sentido del humor bastante negro, violenta y sexual, es decir, todo aquello que puede estar vetado de cualquier show hoy en día. Pero ha sido esto precisamente la clave del éxito de esta historia, The Boys desde que se estrenó ha sido extremadamente popular y con una crítica más que aceptable porque la realidad es que visualmente y a nivel de trama es igual de espectacular.
As you well know The Boys is not a purely superhero story, yes, there are people with powers and the whole thing but in reality the plot revolves around the negative side of these guys, as they can actually be behind all the spotlights. This series has been characterized for being disruptive, graphic, unabashed, uncensored, with a rather black sense of humor, violent and sexual, that is, everything that can be vetoed from any show nowadays. But this has been precisely the key to the success of this story, The Boys since its premiere has been extremely popular and with a more than acceptable critical acclaim because the reality is that visually and plot-wise it is just as spectacular.
Lo primero a mencionar que trae esta nueva temporada son personajes nuevos. Generalmente ellos mantienen el núcleo principal pero si que es verdad que a veces añaden un par más para darle un poco más de profundidad a la historia. El que más me llama la atención es el de Jeffrey Dean Morgan, el famoso Negan de The Walking Dead, quién sería o es como una especie de agente acostumbrado a no hacer las cosas de la mejor manera, de hecho ya hasta se habla de un posible Spin-off de su personaje en un futuro. Apenas van tres episodios por lo que la historia se está cocinando pero es probable que él sea un peso pesado detrás de todo. En cuanto a las otras dos, Susan Heyward y Valorie Curry vendrían siendo dos "Super" más que se unirían al equipo de los siete.
The first thing to mention that this new season brings are new characters. Generally they keep the main core but it is true that sometimes they add a couple more to give a little more depth to the story. The one that catches my attention is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the famous Negan from The Walking Dead, who would be or is like a kind of agent used to not doing things in the best way, in fact there is even talk of a possible spin-off of his character in the future. There are only three episodes so the story is still cooking but it is likely that he will be a heavyweight behind everything. As for the other two, Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry would be two more "Super" that would join the team of seven.
Me gustan ellas dos, por naturaleza son detestables cosa que hace que combinan bien con Homelander y compañía, o por lo menos eso es lo que se ha visto hasta ahora. La historia sigue siendo la misma, la pelea entre los seguidores de los Super y de los que no. Será interesante ver cómo termina todo pero tiene toda la pinta que no será bien. Está cool porque hay un lado en donde se involucra la política teniendo un peso importante, muchas de las cosas que pasan giran en torno a esto. Pero eso si, la serie no abandona el lado "humano" de los protagonistas, de hecho en lo que va de temporada me he dado cuenta que está más acentuado todo, hay sentimientos y reacciones mucho más puros y reales, asumo será porque se acerca el cierre.
I like the two of them, by nature they are obnoxious which makes them go well with Homelander and company, or at least that's what has been seen so far. The story remains the same, the fight between the Super and non-Super fans. It will be interesting to see how it all ends but it looks like it won't be good. It's cool because there is a side where politics is involved having an important weight, many of the things that happen revolve around this. But yes, the series does not abandon the "human" side of the protagonists, in fact so far this season I have noticed that everything is more accentuated, there are much more pure and real feelings and reactions, I assume it will be because the closing is approaching.
Otras de las características es que todas las temporadas han sido ácidas, no es una serie para todo el mundo, pero en lo que va de esta cuarta entrega esta acidez está aumentada considerablemente, hay unos chistes y comentarios escondidos entre los diálogos los cuales tienen que ver un poco con el día a día cultural en Estados Unidos que por lo menos para mi son joyas, esa esencia no se podía perder. Creo que la palabra acertada es "incorrecta", así está siendo esta temporada hasta ahora; lo estamos viendo en las redes sociales con las opiniones de la gente. Esto es perfecto si me lo preguntan.
Another of the characteristics is that all the seasons have been acidic, it is not a series for everyone, but so far in this fourth installment this acidity is considerably increased, there are some jokes and comments hidden among the dialogues which have to do a little with the cultural day to day life in the United States that at least for me are jewels, that essence could not be lost. I think the right word is "incorrect", that's how this season is being so far; we are seeing it in the social networks with people's opinions. This is perfect if you ask me.
Y finalmente todo lo visual sigue siendo una maravilla, la violencia desmedida y sin sentido es el plato fuerte de The Boys. Y no solo eso sino el contenido sexual, hay una escena en el segundo episodio que es dantesca pero el contexto es increíblemente gracioso y es que la combinación de la comedia con estos elementos hace que todo sea mucho más disfrutable. Creo que no hemos llegado al verdadero clímax de la temporada, eso lo veremos intuyo en los últimos capítulos pero por lo visto hasta ahora da la sensación de que el final será apoteósico. Y me atrevería a decir que vamos a sufrir, para bien o para mal, con la culminación de ciertos personajes a los que les hemos tomado cariño y empatía.
And finally all the visuals are still a marvel, the excessive and senseless violence is the highlight of The Boys. And not only that but the sexual content, there is a scene in the second episode that is Dantesque but the context is incredibly funny and the combination of comedy with these elements makes everything much more enjoyable. I think we have not reached the true climax of the season, I guess we will see that in the last chapters but from what we have seen so far it seems that the end will be apotheosis. And I would dare to say that we are going to suffer, for better or worse, with the culmination of certain characters that we have grown fond of and empathize with.
No tengo dudas de que esta temporada será extraordinaria, estos primeros capítulos lo confirman, es una lastima pero se nos va una de las mejores series hechas en los últimos años. Hay muchas historias que tienen que cerrarse y creo que ahí es donde estará la magia final.
I have no doubt that this season will be extraordinary, these first chapters confirm it, it is a shame but we are leaving one of the best series made in recent years. There are many stories that have to be closed and I think that's where the magic will be.
