One city I have been longing to visit is Lagos State, in the western part of Nigeria. I have seen many people, both those living there and those not living there, say so many odd things about the horrible lifestyle there, especially regarding the high level of traffic jams and the exorbitant cost of living. But even in all this, I see Lagos as a fine city from what I see in movies, and I keep asking myself why people say so many odd things about it when we are seeing beautiful things and spots in those movies. I know movies don't tell all, though.
Visiting Lagos, the following is my ideal way I would spend a day there.
The Day wouldn't be the day I traveled down there because I know it's going to be hell. Of course, I believe in the high traffic jams people talk about. So, the next day after I arrive, I would take my bath and dress up with a face cap to prevent the sun from eating my face directly because I’m going to walk. I would stack up my wallet with a lot of cash to pay transport fares because I doubt the transporters would accept money transfers.
Since I don’t know much about the terrain of the land, I would get either an Uber or use a public transport system and head directly to the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge. I have seen a lot in movies about this place, and I think it’s one of the most beautiful places in Lagos.
I would have loved to go at night to see, in the distance, the lights arranged on top of the bridge. I would snap a lot of photos and make a lot of videos. From what I’ve seen in movies and what I’ve heard too, I think traffic is not always high there, so I would go to the center of the road and feel at home.
Banana Island
According to what I’ve heard and read, this part of Lagos is the most expensive, and not everyone can live there due to how costly it is. It’s full of wealthy people, and it has sophisticated buildings. This is my next target. I don’t know how I would gain access because I heard not everyone can visit there. I might sort out the access with money, go into the mini city, and have a feel of the lifestyle there. I would visit the lounges, eateries, and game centers there if there are any. Since that’s where the big boys come to chill, I would expect to meet some celebrities and take photos with them. If I had my way, I would spend half of my day here.
Then, lastly, Ikeja. There’s so much I’ve heard about Ikeja; it seems it’s the next developed place, or maybe it’s just accommodating due to the nice facilities there. I would head to the much-talked-about Ikeja City Mall and spend the remaining money I have left there.
