Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Anachron Bolter.
Featured cards

Anachron Bolter is a life splinter that costs 8 mana. This splinter starts with the headwinds ability. This card learns repair at level 6, and increasing its level will increase its stats.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Briar Patch. This means that monstersgain the thorns ability. There is also 39 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for water and death.
It's an interesting ruleset where melee monsters are punished. With that, the general preference is either magic or ranged monsters.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chuul Jujinchi | 3 | Summoner | |
| Halfling Refugee | 1 | 1st | |
| Lord Thanalor | 12 | 2nd | Amplify |
| Meriput Magician | 5 | 3rd | Tank Heal |
| Anachron Bolter | 8 | 4th | Headwinds |
| Fenmoor Wood Troll | 10 | 5th | Blind and Wingbreak |
| Total Mana: | 39 |
My summoner is Chuul Jujinchi for the earth and life splinters. My tank is Halfling Refugee. Lord Thanalor is my backup tank with amplify. Meriput Magician has tank heal, and Anachron Bolter has headwinds. Fenmoor Wood Troll is my last monster with blind and wingbreeak.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while the rest of my lineup deals damage. I have one melee monster because I had one mana leftover. It is going to work as a filler, and Lord Thanalor's amplify will make my opponents counteer damage hurt more if he uses any melee. The rest of the lineup is to keep my lineup alive, and for damage. Headwinds and blind work to reduce the ranged damage and decrease their accuracy.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is my win. The headwinds will reduce my opponent's damage, and my backup tank will heal quite a bit of damage through the tank heal. So long as I kill off a few monsters, my opponent will have zero chance left in this match.
Round 3

A few rounds later, my opponent is down to three monsters left, and I have only lost 1. At this point, I have this match won due to the heals that I have. Even with scattershot, my opponent can't kill the rest of my lineup fast enough.

I won that match a few rounds later.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. I played a lineup where I outlasted my opponent and all the cards that I had. Overall, Anachron Bolter reduced the ranged damage ,making my cards harder to kill. Tank Heal restored the health on my cards, and blind reduced the ranged attack accuracy.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
