Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Demented Shark.
Featured cards

Demented Shark is a water splinter that costs 6 mana. It starts with inspire. Leveling this card gives this card thorns at level 6. This is a card that I can only use in Brawls, but I do think it's very useful. When I can, I use this along with melee monsters for more damage.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Fire & Regret, Explosive Weaponry, and Super Sneak. This means that melee monsters gain the sneak ability, and all monsters gain the counterfire and blast abilities. There are also 46 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for life and dragon.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kelya Frendul | 4 | Summoner | +1 armor and speed |
| Diemonshark | 8 | 1st | Trample |
| Coastal Sentry | 10 | 2nd | Double Strike |
| Demented Shark | 6 | 3rd | +1 melee |
| Deeplurker | 6 | 4th | |
| Disintegrator | 7 | 5th | -1 melee |
| Alva the Crusher | 6 | 6th | Shield and Bloodlust |
| Total Mana: | 47 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Kelya Frendul for the +1 armor and speed. I have Diemonshark up front to tank damage, and there is demented shark to buff up my melee monsters. The rest of my monsters are all melee monsters. Disintegrator is there for the -1 melee attack, and Alva the Crusher is in the last spot to tank melee damage.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent has higher-level cards, but I have higher speed. All my damage dealers can hit quite hard because of Demented Shark's inspire.
Round 6

A round later, my opponent has 2 monsters left, but I still have all of mine. It's my win because I am faster than my opponent.

I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. Focusing on a pure melee lineup with decent played out exactly how I thought it would. This allowed me to stack up all the damage, and that damage was only increased because of the blast ability.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
