Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Giam Root.
Featured cards

Giam Root is an earth splinter that costs 9 mana. This card has strengthen to start. Leveling this card increases its attack. Since this is a foundational card, it can only go up to level 2. It's a decent card if you have the mana for it.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Global Warming and Enraged Warriors. This means that all monsters start off burned, and melee monsters are moved up in the turn order. There are also 59 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for water and dragon.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aurelia | 6 | Summoner | +1 Health |
| Dread Tafarian | 9 | 1st | Heal |
| Buns the Unseen | 11 | 2nd | Reach |
| Giam Root | 9 | 3rd | Strengthen |
| Time Bandit | 8 | 4th | Cleanse |
| A'lan Musketeer | 8 | 5th | Double Strike |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 6th | Taunt |
| Total Mana: | 59 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Aurelia for the +1 health. Dread Tafarian is my tank with heal followed by Buns the Unseen with reach. Giam Root is another backup tank. Time Bandit and A'lan Musketeer are my supporting damage dealers, and New Beluroc Aegis has taunt.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way, but I have an advantage due to my high health monsters and taunt monster. Giam's strengthen and my archon's health boost is canceled out by my opponent.
Round 6

A few rounds later, my opponent has 4 monsters left, but I still have 5 of mine. It's my win because my opponent doesn't have enough damage to kill me before poison finishes him off.

I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. Giam Root has high health, and the strength ability could help my monsters live an extra round. It was perfect for this ruleset as burn takes away 2 health per turn so it could easily be the difference between outlasting my opponent or not. The rest of my lineup did their job by dealing damage or soaking up the hits from my opponent.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
