Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Grimbardun Smith.
Featured cards

Grimbardun Smith is a neutral splinter that costs 6 mana. It starts with immunity. It learns slow at level 3, shield at level 5, and repair at level 8.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Noxious Fumes. This means that all monsters start off poisoned. There is also 33 mana available, and I can use every splinter except fire, earth, and death.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| Halfling Refugee | 1 | 1st | |
| Daigendark Surveyor | 2 | 2nd | Magic Reflect |
| Grimbardun Smith | 6 | 3rd | Immunity |
| Daarg Deadblast | 7 | 4th | Swiftness and Weapons Training |
| Ulundin Overseer | 11 | 5th | |
| Total Mana: | 33 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. Halfling Refugee is my tank, and Daigendark Surveyor is my backup tank. After that is Grimbardun Smith, followed by Daarg Deadblast. Daarg Deadblast will give Grimbardun Smith and Ulundin Overseer magic damage. Grimbardun Smith has immunity, so it can avoid the poison damage, and Ulundin Overseer has plenty of health so it can last quite long even when poisoned.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent doesn't have much damage, and my magic damage will wipe the floor with most of the monsters.
Round 14

A round later, my opponent is down to just 3 monsters left, while I still have all of mine. My opponent has barely done any damage to me, and poison will kill off two of my opponent's monsters at the start of the round.

I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time did go exactly as planned. It was an easy win after looking at the damage difference, but Grimbardun Smith would have been solid even if my opponent had a stronger lineup. Immunity just helps it survive longer, as it won't take any poison damage.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
