Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Merdaali Guardian.
Featured cards

Merdaali Guardian is a water splinter that costs 3 mana. It starts with tank heal. It learns repair at level 5 and strengthen at level 8.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Keep Your Distance and Now You Can See Me. This means that all monsters gain the camouflage ability and no melee monsters can be used. There is also 16 mana available, and I can use every splinter except earth, life, and death.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bortus | 3 | Summoner | -1 Magic |
| Grimbardun Smith | 6 | 1st | Immunity |
| Venari Wavesmith | 5 | 2nd | Protect |
| Merdaali Guardian | 3 | 3rd | Tank Heal |
| Total Mana: | 17 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Bortus for the -1 magic. Grimbardun Smith is my tank with immunity. After that is Venari Wavesmith with protect and Merdaali Guardian with tank heal. The protect and tank heal will keep my tank alive while Wavesmith deals damage.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way, but I have the advantage. It depends on whether or not I can take out that magic monster before my tank dies. I do think that I have the advantage because of my armor and tank heal.
Round 14

A few rounds later, my opponent is down to just 1 monster left, while I still have all of mine. This is my win because my opponent can't outdamage me.

I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time did go exactly as planned. My Grimbardun Smith was such a good tank when paired with Merdaali Guardian. I was able to outlast my opponent despite having poor attack damage this round. Once I got rid of one monster, the rest was easy.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
