Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Rush Townsend.

Featured cards

Rush Townsend is a fire splinter that costs 9 mana. It starts with ambush and affliction. It learns pierce at level 3 and amplify at level 4. This is a card that I used sometimes in Modern because of its speed and damage. The only downside is its low health.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Tis But Scratches. This means that all monsters gain the cripple ability. There are also 62 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for water, earth, and dragon.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Dolfar Darflak, so I have access to both dark and fire monsters. I have Drybone Megalodon up front with flank, and Mantaroth after with armored strike and shield. Thraghun is a backup tank as the cripple can help me reduce my opponent's health later. Helheim Demon has taunt, and my last two monsters are my ranged damage dealers.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. Both sides have some decent damage, and I can't predict who can win right away. I do have fast ranged monsters so they can damage some decent damage over time.

Round 3

2 round later, my opponent has 2 monsters left, but I still have 3 of mine. This match is my win because Rush Townsend will take out that magic monster so my opponent can't deal too much damage.

I won the match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did not go exactly as planned. I was not expecting a magic monster with fury to wipe out my taunt monster. However, my ranged monsters helped me turn this match around. Rush Townsend was definitely the MVP. The ambush plus the damage per turn added up quite a bit as it killed off quite a few monsters.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
