Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Saltwater Mage.

Featured cards

Saltwater Mage is a water splinter that costs 8 mana. This splinter starts off with the sneak ability, but leveling it does increase its stats. I use this card quite often in Frontier due to its damage, and sometimes, having sneak is great at taking out that backline.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Now You Can See Me and Lost Legendaries. This means that monsters gain the camouflage ability and no legendary cards can be used. There is also 25 mana available, and I can use every splinter except fire and dragon.

Asel Alagosdil41stDivine Shield
Lunaki Howler72nd
Saltwater Mage83rd
Total Mana:25

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Marlai Singariel because of the +1 magic. Asel Alagosdil is my tank with divine shield, and my backup tank is Lunaki Howler. After that is Saltwater Mage, and most of my damage done by those magic monsters. The ruleset will force my monsteers to focus down on the front, so I think this works out better in the long run.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have this match won because the magic monsters attack before ranged monsters, and my magic monsters have the same speed as his ranged monsters.

Round 6

A few rounds later, my opponent's lineup is reduced to 1 monster, and I still have all of mine. This match is my win because my opponent can't attack anymore.

I won the match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time did go exactly as planned. Using magic monsters worked out well, and the ruleset only benefited me because focusing down monsters was better than spreading out the damage. My opponent was using ranged monsters, and I think that led to his downfall as they can't attack from the front.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
