Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Thanalorian Scion.
Featured cards

Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 11, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters. I don't think the true strike does much on a magic monster, but I guess it might be useful if the opponent has phase.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Anemic. This means that all monsters have a maximum health of 4. There is also 53 mana available, and I can use every splinter except earth, life, and death.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic |
| Mantaroth | 11 | 1st | Shield and Armored Strike |
| Thanalorian Scion | 5 | 2nd | Void Armor |
| Mystic Scaleweaver | 9 | 3rd | Slow |
| Daigendark Surveyor | 2 | 4th | Magic Reflect |
| Daarg Deadblast | 7 | 5th | Swiftness and Weapons Training |
| Ulundin Overseer | 11 | 6th | |
| Total Mana: | 51 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. Mantaroth is my tank with shield and armored strike, and Thanalorian Scion is my backup tank. Mystic Scaleweaver has slow, and Daarg Deadblast has swiftness plus weapons training. The other two monsters are given magic damage due to Daarg. Thanalorian Scion is such a great tank due to void armor, and it works well because my opponent has no choice but to take out the 10 armor before it can damage it.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent doesn't have much damage, and my magic damage will wipe the floor with most of the monsters as they have low health due to the ruleset.
Round 14

A round later, my opponent is down to just 3 monsters left, while I still have all of mine. My opponent has barely done any damage to me, and I can't miss.

I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time did go exactly as planned. It was an easy win after looking at the damage difference, but Thanalorian Scion would have been solid even if my opponent had a stronger lineup. That Void Armor is just way too powerful when the maximum health is dropped down to 4. That is 10 extra armor to go through before you can damage it.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
