Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Thanalorian Scion.
Featured cards

Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 11, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters. I don't think the true strike does much on a magic monster, but I guess it might be useful if the opponent has phase.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time is Adrenaline and Fire & Regret. This means that all monsters gain the return fire, and weary monsters gain double strike when they can't move. There are also 20 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire, earth, and dragon.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 magic |
| Thanalorian Scion | 5 | 1st | Void Armor |
| Daigendark Surveyor | 2 | 2nd | Magic Reflect |
| Daarg Deadblast | 7 | 3rd | Weapons Training and Swiftness |
| Total Mana: | 20 |
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Thanalorian Scion. My backup tank is Daigendark Surveyor, and it gains magic damage because of Daarg Deadblast.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way, but I have a slight advantage because I have more damage than my opponent.
Round 7

A few rounds later, my opponent and me both have 1 monster left. I win because I have more damage.

I won the match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. Thanalorian Scion survived until I took out two monsters, and focusing my damage was the right choice. Overall, once my opponent lost their melee monsters, the rest of the monsters were low damage, and I won after that.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
