It is been three days since the previous Splinterlands season ended, and it is no longer news that Splinterlands has integrated the wild pass into the wild league. Basically, you pay about $0.8 or so to have the wild league unlocked so you can compete. Unfortunately, it is not a one-time payment; you must pay each season.
I am not sure if this is the best solution to the bot farms that are depleting the SPS reward pool, but it is probably one way to reduce the bots.
It is not a permanent solution, but rather a band-aid solution, especially since real players are forced to bear the consequences of thousands of bot farms earning SPS and dumping the market. Splinterlands will never get rid of the bots, and this approach only proves that. The primary goal is to prevent SPS dumping in the market.
I understand that the price has already been beaten and continues to be beaten, but unfortunately, this change did not account for the human players who are still maintaining the market value of older generation cards used to compete. Separating the two leagues and relegating older cards to the wild league means that modern players will no longer use them.
Wild, Human Players Are Underrated
This is the primary reason I believe the real players in Wild should be locked. Locked in the sense that they are the primary guardians of whatever value the older cards possess. Let us not forget that these cards are still in the splinterlands, and selling them just to get into the modern league is not worth it because the value of some of these cards has dropped by more than 60% from their original purchase price.
As a result, this is not an appropriate restriction to impose on human players or those who only have one bot playing for them. However, this is what it is. I understand it is a difficult decision, but in business, the parties involved split profits and losses 50/50. Wild passes are now a thing; until something serious happens, this is where we will be.
I play in wild and have never thrived in modern since all the changes. I do not want to play against max-level cards.
My Approach
So I decided to buy some vouchers, as I already had some, and then compete. I must inform you that the SPS requirements have been increased and are no longer the same as before. So, unless you buy or rent more SPS, your SPS and Glints will be reduced. It has become more difficult to play in the Wild.
I have a theory.
I believe that more modern players will try Wild at least once to get a feel for what it is like to play there now. The reason for this is that playing in Modern is already difficult, and they want to know if the SPS and Glint rewards are adequate. This means they will win more games because they already have strong decks.
I believe more Wild players will want to try their luck with Modern, as no one wants to pay a fee every season just to compete. I like to believe that modern players are bigger boys because it is not cheap to play there.
Nevertheless, this season is entirely experimental.
Different league players will try to leave where they are used to playing in order to find something more profitable for them; after all, no one wants to incur additional losses, and the next season will determine where different players want to play.
For what it is worth, SPS earnings have risen.
Some Calculations
Last season, the lowest I earned per battle was around 0.6 SPS, while the highest was around 1.1 SPS. This season, the lowest SPS I have earned per battle is approximately 0.85, and the highest is 1.3. This is on a 27.9k staked SPS. I have an incoming delegation of 16k, and the remaining staked SPS is mine. So, if I decided to sell some of the extra SPS I get per battle, I could afford to buy a wild pass each season, but here's where the problem arises.
It is becoming more difficult to win in Wild now that the majority of these players are human with better decks. It is enjoyable to play against humans, and this is likely the best aspect of the change, but it gets better. However, I have not been able to win more than 50% of my battles each day.
On the other hand, Glint rewards have been reduced by half, making upgrading one's deck with soulbound summoners more difficult.
The Solution?
The solution is to rent more SPS, win roughly 60% of your games, and the more SPS you earn, the easier it will be to afford the pass. This is not difficult, but you will need to dig deeper to rent SPS, which will require more money out of the bucket. I guess this is where many people have a problem: coughing up more money.
