There are many Christians who desire to hear God's voice. I have put this question many times: "Lord, how can I know when you say something to me? God still speaks to His children today, the good news. He does speak because He loves us and wants to lead us in the right direction. But there must be an open heart that will listen and obey to hear His voice.

The first thing is to spend time with God daily. As two friends get closer through frequent conversation, we get closer to God through our frequent prayer and Bible reading. The more time I spend with God, the more I am able to see God's direction. God will never counter His Word, since the Bible is His truth. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, Psalm 119.

Another significant part is to be quiet in the presence of God. There's a lot of noise in our lives, between our phones and social media, work, and so much more. Such distractions can make it hard to hear the gentle voice of God. I just sometimes sit down, after prayer, and let my heart rest in His. During those quiet times, God can give me peace, wisdom, or a direction in my head.

It's also crucial that they obey. When God speaks, He expects us to follow Him. When we choose to ignore His commands, our hearts could become less sensitive to hearing His voice. Even when His direction is difficult, choosing to obey helps us grow in faith. Each of our actions of obedience creates trust in God to us.

It is also good to test out what we assume we have heard. God will never tell us to do something that goes against the Bible. You can also turn to more mature Christians, to pastors or to a mentor, someone who has gone through life's challenges with God's Word. Through their counsel we can steer clear of misunderstanding and take the right course of action.

Last, but not least, hearing God's voice is not about discovering a secret technique. It's about intimate daily relationship with Him. God can speak through the Bible, prayer, the Holy Spirit, wise counsel or circumstances that are placed in our lives.

When we try to look for Him in a sincere way, we must be patient and leave our hearts open, we will get the opportunity to see His voice more and more. John 10:27 teaches us that "My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me. May we always wish to hear God's voice clearly and faithfully follow anywhere He goes.
