Just like a lot of people, there are times people say I am stubborn, This is because although I can be very quiet, I am also strong willed especially when I make a decision and choose to stand by it. I am someone who hardly makes decisions, more like the go with the flow kind of person, not wanting to complicate things and not wanting to stress over things that are not worth my time, I would prefer to just live freely and let things be. But then there are times when I can’t help but just make certain important decisions and sometimes these decisions, although hard, might just be what I need to move forward in life. But then in making these kinds of decisions there is still need for caution so I do not make mistakes that I would end up regretting. I always try to get the opinions and counsel of those I consider wise or those close to me before committing to a lot of my decisions, but then there are times when I need to walk a certain path on my own and no one would really understand my reasons except me.

These are the times that my strong will tends to take effect. I remember some years back when I had no choice but to stick to what I knew might work, even when everyone else thought otherwise. I guess I would say I knew what I wanted for myself and was unwilling to compromise on it. I had just dropped out of the higher institution, and like you can imagine I was already depressed. My dad had just lost a large sum of his assets and had gone bankrupt. He decided that since it was hard paying my fees alongside my other siblings I should work. He made contact with some of his connections at the bank so I could start working in the corporate sector, but I bluntly refused to do so. My reason was simple, I knew nothing, and even if they were going to teach me, I would rather devote the time into learning a skill. My dad was really angry, especially because taking that job would mean an extra source of income for the family, but I bluntly refused it knowing full well that it would mean my family would continue struggling.

I reasoned that it was too early to carry the family burdens on my shoulders because I needed to stand first before I carried them. But even though the bank job offered an immediate solution, it would not offer a lasting solution. I wanted to learn something and be good at it. I wanted something I can teach others, something that can not be taken away from me. My studies were already taken away because of finance, my job could be taken away anytime, but a skill I would learn would stay with me for life. To be honest I regretted that decision in the beginning, my dad and I did not talk for over a year, and that meant I was all to myself. My mum assisted a little, but everything was hard. During that period I had to go days without food and trek very long distances to my skill center but then again, it paid off at the end of the day and I was able to learn the skill I am using today. I initially regretted the decision, but I am enjoying it today and even though I am not where I want to be, I have skills I can survive on instead of just surviving on a job.
