COMPANY POLICIES
The corporate world is a lot you know, I know because I work there and understand to a very deep degree how it works. I have not taken permissions in a while because I wish to take a really long one, one that will give me the luxury of time. Call it a vacation if you want. This is why for a while even when I fall sick I do not take sick leave, even when I am asked to take a sick leave I end up not taking because I am waiting for the perfect time. In the corporate world everything has to follow due process, if I wish to take a long vacation I must make sure I have been present at work during every working hour for at least a year or six months depending on the policy. In my company for example, the policy gives pregnant women a three month leave, some people say it is not enough, but that is just the company policy and no one can do anything about it except the company decides otherwise. There is always no point getting angry about these things as you will only end up being bitter. If you hate it so much, you can as well leave the job.

These policies vary for different companies, but then again if one should bring up the matter of mental health in a corporate firm, most companies will tell you they can’t afford to provide any more leave than necessary and that is why we have breaks. I wish to own a company one day and if I am to be honest, the welfare of my business will always come first. But then again for my business to flourish I need sane employees therefore I should consider their mental health but definitely not at the risk of my business. This is why some companies create daily shifts giving their employees a full day to recharge and come back. There is even a section of my company that gives employees two week shifts giving them two weeks to recharge and two weeks to work because of how tedious their job is. Mind you in these two weeks they still get breaks in between because they are humans that need rest. I have also seen another department in my company who even though everyone is given holidays never get because of the nature of their job. These set of people could stay 6 months without working and be at a job for another 1 year if required.

From these you can see it is a bit tricky for companies to just create mental health leave policies, especially because when you are not doing your job they would need the job to be done regardless and for such a leave will still need to pay you in your absence. In my opinion instead of giving a full leave, companies can create mediums for employees to unwind in order to help their mental health. Some companies do this by giving more than 3 hours break or multiple breaks in between. But note that not even a leave will improve a person's mental health, because if we should look at what causes these issues with people, jobs only take like 5% of the blame most of the time. It is usually due to family and personal reasons and companies should not suffer because of these reasons which is why I suggest helping them unwind because all employees need is that little time but what they do with the time matters even more.
