The wrong people are the ones who make things difficult, especially when you have them continually in power. These are people who step on toes not out of mistake but simply because they can and they would do it without thinking twice. I have seen a number of these people, and even been close with a good number of them and to be honest you need guts and lots of brain to actually work with them. They are not demons don’t get me wrong, they could even be the sweetest people to you, but then when you see their attitude towards others, you begin to thank your stars you are not on their bad side because being on their bad side can lead to another form of depression and they won’t even blink an eye.

I have one in my company. She used to be our Head of human resources and also had the ears of the company’s CEO. This made her think she could ride on everyone else and she did that without batting an eye and she would frustrated workers to the point of resignation or make them make mistakes that warranted dismissal. Once she doesn’t like you, you are gone and she always wants people kissing her ass. Don’t get me wrong she knows her job and in fact one of the very few people really good with her job and would go the extra mile for the company. But then again she is a bully and she is a very bad one. In the last year, more than 20 staff members have left the company and 98% of them resigned or were dismissed because of her.

At a point even my MD began to realize the pattern and this led him to make some drastic decisions. Based on my personal relationship with my MD, he consulted me on his dilemma, he was cut between losing a very good staff, or losing a lot of staff, and I gave my honest opinion. I suggested that because of her value to the company, a new position be created for her, but let that position take away all the powers she has as a Human resource person. I believed that her power came from her position and my MD decided to do just that. She was given a new job title and was relieved of her previous position. Now she has made it her life's pursuit to go after the current HR and make sure she under-estimated his work before the company’s management. You can call her a corporate bully because that is exactly what she is. She knows exactly how to use policies to her advantage and drive people emotionally insane so that they can break rules and then she can enforce those rules or force those in charge to enforce them.
