SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE

There are certain things that will never change in the society, and one of them is how families would always intrude in business. But to be honest, I get it. When you get to a certain position, if you have a loving family, it is almost natural to want to put them in positions where you do not need to fend for their every need. This is usually how family legacies are built. But then again there needs to be a balance. I believe balance is everything and even though the world is not fair, it is our duty to create balance in whatever we do. We need a balance in order to really get more out of life and without that balance a lot of things will go wrong. There are those that say family comes first, which to a large extent I agree with, but sometimes this phrase is used in the wrong context bringing the idea of nepotism into the picture.

Family should always come first, but in a situation where the family member is incompetent but retains a position just because a relative is in power, that is absolutely wrong. In a situation where decisions are made in favour of family not minding qualifications, a lot of things will go wrong because at the end of the day legacy is not built, corruption would take over, the business, organization, government or project will suffer, and the people whose lives were meant to be changed would have been deprived for nothing. If family should come first, then something must be first put into consideration. Growth and sustainability should be the goal here, this should be put into major consideration because by doing so, the family would enjoy the benefit of power more than when positions are given to incompetent hands.

The idea of family ruling should not be a crime, because the fact is this world is not fair and if you have the chance to rise to the top, carry your family along and build generational wealth. But then again do it the right way. Nepotism should not be allowed to prevail, so long the hands taking power can handle it, then they should be considered first. If you love your family as much as you say you do, find ways to train them to become qualified instead of giving to them on a platter because they are family. This would make them go back to zero once you lose the power you have because they do not have the skills or qualifications to handle what you have given to them. Yes, consider your family first, if you see they are responsible enough to manage the power you have given to them. Do not be unjust, because even giving unqualified hands responsibility is unfair to them as you are putting them in a position to destroy themselves. It is life giving your 7 year old child your car keys to drive. You won’t do that because you love the child, so don’t do it for an unqualified relative.
