Throat cleared...

Unlike these days, when phones have become a major part of human life, back in the day, most of us attended school without a phone. Yeah, I was brought up in that era, and I passed through secondary school without using a phone.

"That must have been in the 80s, right?"

In case you're tempted to ask this, no, it wasn't in the 80s. In fact, phones were not common in the early 2000s to the 2010s. The youths who had phones back then were children from wealthy families and those who crazily "hustled" to get the money to buy them.

Back in those days, life was simple, and we didn't depend on phones because they weren't readily available. During our leisure hours, we depended largely on hanging out with friends, engaging in sports, and participating in many other social activities. There was no way to check the internet to find information that could make us know more than our teachers because we depended primarily on what we were taught in class and the textbooks we read.

But these days, the story has changed.

In fact, towards the end of my final years in the tertiary institution, I had almost stopped going to school with physical books. My phone was everything to me, and the funny thing was that my phone back then wasn't even a good one. It needed charging every now and then, which was why people often saw me moving around in search of somewhere to charge it.

These days, just as phones have become an essential part of human life on this planet, they have also become important tools for students. Nowadays, phones make schooling easier. For example, information can easily be passed across through phones, and students who are on holiday or away from the school environment can easily get updates on happenings in their schools without having to spend money on transportation just to visit the school physically and find out what's happening. As much as some people speak against the importance of social media channels and group chats for students, these platforms serve as effective means of passing information quickly, allowing students to communicate and stay updated as though they were physically present in the same place.

Should I talk about how easy it is to glance through school materials? Of course, with the use of cameras and AI, students can save themselves the stress of copying notes manually and carrying out many other difficult tasks. With these tools, they can easily capture important information, access learning materials, and even get assistance with understanding difficult concepts without having to go through unnecessary stress.

As it stands these days, if I were to return to school, I doubt I would go to classes with books. I'd do everything on my phone, except in cases where writing on paper and submitting a notebook to the lecturer is required.

Thanks for reading.
