During my visit in METZ ( France) this cathedral immediately caught my attention. Its monumental scale, vertical lines and rich architectural details make it just impossible to ignore.

This is CATHÉDRALE SAINT-ÉTIENNE DE METZ, one of the tallest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. Construction began in the 13th century and continued over several centuries, which explains the complexity and richness of its form. The cathedral is especially famous for its stained glass windows. As I read - with over 6,500 square meters of glass it is often called “The Lantern of God.”

On that day the sky played together with the architecture.
Dark, dramatic clouds contrasted beautifully with the warm stone of the façade. I think this combination of light, architecture and atmosphere gave the city a powerful, almost theatrical character.

In my oppinion Metz is often overlooked, yet it is a city shaped by centuries of history and cultural influences from both France and Germany. This cathedral stands at its heart — monumental, timeless and deeply embedded in the urban landscape.
