Being a Mom Means Saying “I Told You So” Without Saying It

Sometimes I wonder how motherhood turned me into a person who can go from laughing to panicking in seconds. One minute, everything is quiet and normal. Then I hear a loud bang from the other room.

My heart immediately drops.

“WHAT HAPPENED?”

At that point, I am already running to see who is hurt, what has broken, and whether I should be calling someone. And, of course, half the time, everyone is fine. Maybe something fell. Maybe someone was playing when they weren't supposed to. Maybe they decided to try something I had specifically told them not to try.

And that is where the real test begins. Because sometimes, I already know how the story is going to end. I have warned them, I have explained, I have said, “Please don't do that.”

I have even given the whole speech that mothers somehow give without realizing they are giving a speech. And then they do it anyway. A few minutes later, there I am, checking if they are okay while trying very hard not to say those four dangerous words

I told you so.

Let's be honest, being a mother can be funny sometimes. You can be annoyed, worried, tired, and still find yourself trying not to laugh at the situation. But before anything else, you want to know that your child is okay. That is the part people don't always see.

When we tell our children to be careful, it isn't because we want to control everything they do. Most of the time, we are simply trying to save them from a pain we have already imagined in our heads.

But children have their own ideas. Sometimes they have to make the mistake themselves before they understand why we were talking so much.

And as difficult as that can be for a mother, I think it's also part of growing up.

We can't protect our children from every mistake. We can't run behind them every second of the day. At some point, we have to let them try things, make mistakes, learn from them, and become their own people.

Our job is not to make sure they never fall. Sometimes our job is simply to make sure they know they can come back to us when they do.

So yes, when that crash comes from the other room, I will probably still panic. I will still run to check what happened before I even knew it. I will still ask, “Are you okay?”

And if everything is fine, I might give them that look. You know the one. The look that says everything without actually saying it.

Because sometimes being a mom means putting comfort before correction, even when you really, really want to say, “See? I warned you.”

Motherhood isn't about always being right, It's about being there even when they are stubborn, even when they don't listen, even when they learn the hard way.

And honestly, I will take being the worried mom who keeps repeating herself if it means they always know where to find me when they need someone.

That is motherhood, I guess a little worry, a lot of love and plenty of moments where you have to bite your tongue.

Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
