I Want My Children to Feel Safe Telling Me the Truth

Sometimes, I think about the kind of relationship I want to have with my children as they grow up. Not just the kind where they listen to me because I'm their mother, but the kind where they feel comfortable enough to talk to me about anything, even the things they are afraid I might not want to hear.

Honestly, that is something I really want to be intentional about. I don't want my children to grow up hiding things from me because they are scared of how I will react. I want them to know that even when they make mistakes, they can still come to me. They don't have to figure everything out on their own or pretend that everything is fine when it isn't.

Of course, I'm not saying I will always be happy with their decisions. I'm human too, and there will definitely be times when I get upset, especially if I know they could have made a better choice. But I hope I can learn to listen before reacting, because sometimes the way we respond to our children can determine whether they will feel comfortable coming to us the next time.

If a child makes a mistake and the first thing they worry about is how angry their parents will be, they might decide to keep it to themselves. And before you know it, they are dealing with something much bigger than what they were initially afraid to tell you about. That is what I don't want for my children.

I want them to be able to tell me when something is bothering them, when they have made a wrong decision, when someone has treated them badly, or when they find themselves in a situation they don't know how to get out of. I want them to know that they don't have to come to me with everything figured out.

Sometimes, all they need to do is talk, and I should be willing to listen. I know being a mother goes beyond providing food, clothes, education, and all the other things children need. Those things are important, of course, but I also want to build a relationship with my children that goes beyond their basic needs.

I want to know what is going on in their minds. I want to understand their fears, their struggles, their mistakes, and even the things they find difficult to explain. I know it won't always be easy. Children grow, their experiences change, and there will be times when I may not immediately understand their choices. But I hope that, even when we disagree, they will never feel that my love for them is in question.

This doesn't mean there shouldn't be discipline. Children need guidance, and sometimes they need to face the consequences of their actions. But I believe there is a difference between correcting a child and making that child afraid to speak up. I want my children to learn from their mistakes, not just learn how to hide them better next time.I also know that I won't get everything right, nobody does.

There may be times when I react wrongly or misunderstand them. When that happens, I hope I will have the humility to admit it and make things right. Being a parent doesn't mean knowing everything. Sometimes, it means being willing to learn alongside your children.

As they grow older and begin to face life on their own, I want them to remember that they can always talk to me. Even when I cannot solve every problem, I can listen, offer advice, pray with them, and help them think through whatever they are facing. More than anything, I want my children to trust me enough to tell me the truth, even when it isn't easy to hear.

I want to be the mother they can call when they are confused, the one they can talk to when they are scared, and the one they can turn to when they don't know what to do next. I may not always have the perfect answer, but I hope they will always know that they don't have to face everything alone. And honestly, I think that is one of the most beautiful things a mother can give her children. The assurance that even when they get things wrong, they still have someone who is willing to listen, guide them, and love them through it. That is the kind of bond I hope to build with my children, one day at a time.

Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
