Living in Nigeria, we experience different weather conditions throughout the year. We have the rainy season, dry season, Harmattan, and the period when the heat becomes almost unbearable. Every season has its own good and bad sides, but if there is one season I wish could be reduced to just a few days, it is the heat period and honestly, I don't enjoy it at all.

The funny thing is that I can manage the cold weather, even when Harmattan comes with its cold breeze. All I need to do is wear extra clothes, put on a cardigan, or cover myself properly, and I will be fine. If the cold becomes too much, I can always add another layer of clothing. But tell me, what can someone wear to escape heat? That is where the problem starts.

During the heat period, it sometimes feels as if the sun has decided to deal with everybody personally. You can sit quietly in your room and still find yourself sweating as if you have just finished doing some serious work. Even when you are not doing anything stressful, the heat will make you uncomfortable. Sleeping can become a problem too because you keep turning from one side to another, hoping to find a cooler spot on the bed. Sometimes, you even wonder if the fan is actually helping or just blowing hot air around the room and at times, I results into sleeping on the floor.

One thing about this heat is that it can make you lose patience over little things. You may already be uncomfortable before the day even gets busy. Imagine taking your bath, feeling fresh for a few minutes, and then starting to sweat again shortly afterwards. There are days when I feel like bathing up to seven times because of how uncomfortable the weather makes me.

Yet, even after all those baths, the heat will still be there to remind me that I have not won the battle. At this point, I sometimes wonder what else I am supposed to do.

What makes it worse is that we cannot completely avoid it. We still have to go to work, attend to our daily responsibilities, cook, clean, and do other necessary things. You cannot tell the sun to wait until you are ready before it shines. Even staying indoors does not always solve the problem, especially when there is no electricity to power the fan, that is when you really understand how difficult the heat can be.

To make things a little easier for myself, I try to drink enough water throughout the day and wear light clothes that allow my body to breathe. Whenever possible, I take my bath when the heat becomes too much, and I try to stay in a well-ventilated place. I also prefer doing outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the evening when the sun is less intense, these little things may not completely solve the problem, but they help me cope with it.

The funny part is that we are already in that period again, and I am not even excited about it. I know it is part of our weather here in Nigeria, and there is nothing much I can do to change it, but that does not mean I have to like it.

Honestly, if I had the power to choose just one season to enjoy throughout the year, I would choose a period with moderate weather, not too cold and definitely not too hot. For now, I will keep drinking my water, taking my baths, wearing light clothes, and hoping for cooler days.

Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
