These Days, Trust Is Hard to Come By. This morning, while I was on my way, something happened on the bus that got me thinking about how much the world has changed.

A young man entered the bus carrying a backpack, mere looking at it you won't know it is heavy until you try to carry it that is when you will know it's really heavy. The driver in a hurry and tried to carry the bag with one hand, he tried to help him lift it inside, but he couldn't. The bag was simply too heavy.
The moment I saw it and a little opening, I smiled to myself because I already had an idea of what was inside. My husband is a plumber, so I'm very familiar with those heavy tool bags. In fact, if there is one thing I hardly ever help him carry, it is his tools. They are always packed with pipe wrenches, cutters, fittings, and all sorts of equipment. Anyone who knows a plumber would understand how heavy those bags can be.
A few minutes later, the young man got to his destination and stepped off the bus. That is when I overheard a conversation between a man and his wife sitting beside me.
The wife said, "That bag is too heavy. Maybe he stole someone's engine and hid it inside." Her husband agreed that that is how they use their backpack to steal, and they both continued talking as though they were certain the young man had done something wrong.
I just sat there quietly.
Part of me wanted to tell them that not every heavy bag belongs to a criminal. Some people actually carry the weight of their work every single day. But I didn't want to interrupt their conversation or come across as arguing with strangers, so I kept my thoughts to myself.
On my way home, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Have we reached a point where we automatically assume the worst about people?
It's true that there are many bad people in society today, and we all need to be careful. But I also think we have become so suspicious that we sometimes forget there are still hardworking, honest young people trying to make a living.
That young man didn't look like a thief to me. He looked like someone going to work with the tools he needed to earn an honest living. Maybe I noticed because my husband is in the same profession. Someone else without that experience saw the same bag and imagined something completely different.
It reminded me that our experiences shape the way we see the world. Two people can witness the exact same situation and walk away with two completely different conclusions.
Being careful is important, but so is giving people the benefit of the doubt. Not every young man carrying a heavy bag is jobless. Not every heavy bag is filled with stolen items. Sometimes, it's simply filled with the tools of an honest worker trying to provide for himself and his family.
That bus ride reminded me that while trust may be hard to come by these days, kindness and fairness are choices we can still make. Before judging someone, maybe we should pause and remember that appearances don't always tell the whole story.
Thank for checking on my post and have a wonderful day
