One of the greatest mistakes we can make in life is choosing what looks good over what is actually good for us.
Imagine someone preparing for a very long journey. There are different pairs of shoes available, but instead of picking the one that will be comfortable for the journey, the person chooses the most beautiful pair. Of course, the shoes look good, and people may even admire them. But what happens after walking for several hours? The same beautiful shoes may become a source of pain and discomfort.

Now, I am not saying that beautiful things are bad, not at all. But what is the point of having something that looks good when it cannot serve the purpose for which you need it. I believe this is something many of us can relate to in our everyday lives.
Sometimes, we make decisions based on how things appear rather than what they truly offer. We want the kind of job that people will admire, the relationship that looks perfect on social media, the lifestyle that makes others think we have everything figured out, and the kind of success that attracts attention.
But have we ever stopped to ask ourselves if these things are actually good for us. The truth is that not everything that looks attractive is suitable for our journey. Some opportunities come with beautiful promises but leave us frustrated. Some relationships look wonderful from the outside but take away our peace.
Some friendships are enjoyable, but they don't necessarily help us become better people, and sometimes, we already know what is right for us, but we ignore it because something else looks more appealing. One thing I have come to understand is that we should learn to make decisions based on where we are going, not just how we want people to see us.
When we are building something meaningful, let choose what will help us grow, even if it doesn't attract attention. If you are choosing friends, look beyond the fun and consider the values they bring into your life. If you are choosing a partner, don't allow physical attraction to be the only thing guiding your decision. And if you are pursuing success, remember that what matters most is having something sustainable, not just something impressive.
Another thing worth remembering is that people may admire your beautiful shoes, but they are not the ones who will feel the pain when you start having blisters. You are the one who will have to deal with the consequences of your choices.
This is why we must be careful not to live our lives simply to satisfy other people's expectations. There is nothing wrong with wanting a beautiful life. We all want good things, and there is nothing bad about that. However, we must also have the wisdom to recognise what is genuinely good for us.
Sometimes, the right choice may not look exciting. It may not even make sense to the people around you. But if it gives you the stability, peace and strength you need to keep moving, then it may be exactly what you need.
Life is not a short walk where you only need to look good for a few minutes. It is a long journey, and every decision we make has the potential to affect how far we go. So, before choosing something simply because it looks beautiful, ask yourself one question , will this choice help me through the journey, or will it make the journey harder for me?
Because at the end of the day, it is better to arrive safely in comfortable shoes than to abandon the journey because you were too concerned about looking good. Sometimes, wisdom is simply knowing the difference between what looks good and what is good for you.
