The Heart of a Mother Is More Fragile Than Glass, Yet She Must Carry the Strength of a Lion

Yesterday, I was at home doing my usual chores, washing clothes outside, when something unusual caught my attention. I suddenly heard loud shouting in the distance. Curiously, I looked up and saw a group of students running along the road, their school bags lifted over their heads as though they were trying to protect themselves from something unseen.

I quickly stopped one of them and asked what was going on. She looked frightened and said their teacher had asked them to go home immediately because there was a rumour that bandits had been spotted around the area. My heart skipped a beat, but I tried to stay calm. I went inside, picked up my phone, and checked the community platform. Almost immediately, I saw several updates and videos confirming that it was only a false alarm. There was no danger, just misinformation spreading fear.

At that moment, I felt relieved. I believed the situation would settle quickly. However, what I saw next was deeply emotional and unforgettable. Mothers began rushing down the street in panic, running towards the school to pick up their children. Some were crying loudly, others were calling out their children’s names. A few lost their slippers in the rush, their clothes soaked with sweat, faces filled with fear and confusion. The atmosphere was pure chaos driven by fear rather than facts.

I tried to calm some of them, telling them that the rumour had already been debunked and there was no danger. But in their panic, many of them looked at me as though I was being careless or even heartless. Fear had taken over reason, and nothing I said seemed to matter in that moment.

Later in the day, when my own child’s teacher brought him home, she gently asked me why I was not at the school earlier like the other parents. She explained that many parents had stormed the school to take their children away. I simply told her I had checked and confirmed it was just a false alarm, so I didn’t see the need to panic.

She then looked at me and asked, “Do you have a lion’s heart?” That question stayed with me. It made me reflect deeply. A mother’s heart is indeed fragile, easily shaken by the thought of harm coming to her child. Yet in this modern world filled with rumours, fear, and misinformation, a mother may also need the strength of a lion, to pause, to verify, and to trust reason even when her heart is trembling.
Because while love makes a mother protective, wisdom helps her protect her child better. It’s not easy though. Being calm when everyone else is panicking never really is.
But maybe that is part of what motherhood is becoming.

Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
