Some weeks ago we were enjoying the warm, golden days of the summer. A season that gave us so many memories to cherish. Memories borne from vacations and the many outdoor activities we engaged in, from lazy afternoons spent lounging by the pool to sizzling barbecues with friends and family. From visits to the beach, waterfall, garden parks to long walks and evening bonfires not forgetting the new friendships forged, and the lessons learned. It has indeed been a wonderful experience for most people and the memories will stay for a long time.
But change they say, is the only constant thing - life is always changing including times and seasons. The clock to the end of summertime was fast ticking leaving only few hours for us to usher in the crisp, cool nights of fall. As it was going to be the last night of summer, I looked forward to soaking up every last ray of sunshine and savoring every drop of sweetness it has to offer.
And as usual, Ted had something planned for the night. He doesn't just want summer to end, lol. Well that's because it's his favorite season and also a memorable night for us. His plan was just simple - a long evening walk after which we'll gather around a bonfire with few friends and family members. There would be music, games, story time, wining and dining as well.
I was really excited about it because all through the summertime we've been away on vacation and haven't seen or spent time with our loved ones so spending the last night of summer with them was just the perfect plan for celebrating our meet up day and I loved it, but I love the big head, the more, lol. I'm sure you're wondering who the big head is, it's Ted, of course, hehehe.
So we went about setting up the yard, adding few decorations here and there and getting the woods in place including every other thing we would be needing. He had already taken care of most of the stuffs so there wasn't much to do. That's one thing I love about him, his thoughtfulness. By the time we finished, it was already early evening and some of our guests had already arrived so we all went out for the walk.
The walk was another great opportunity to appreciate the beauty of nature and the changing of the seasons. Looking up, the sun was beginning to set, bathing the sky with a warm golden light that casted everything in a beautiful, dreamy glow.
The air was filled with the scent of flowers, fresh grass, and even the faint aroma of barbecue from nearby backyards. Some peeps started the party early, lol. There was also the sounds of nature - the buzz of bees, the rustling of leaves, the warm breeze - which all created a beautiful natural symphony that was enjoyable to listen to. It was a beautiful walk and we all enjoyed it, I especially because I love nature.
Coming back from the walk, we got ready to enjoy the rest of the night. Ted and some of the guys built up the bornfire and the yard lighted up. He also strung fairy lights and candles to create a magical, twinkling ambiance in the environment. The ladies got the table set and after that we all gathered round the fire, dancing and making merry under the starry sky.
As I watched the crackling bonfire release its magical golden flames up in the sky while being held lovingly in the hands of Ted as we danced, I was taken back memory lane, to the day we met. It was some years ago on a last summer night party at my friend's neighborhood. It was a handful of a party, there were lots to eat and drink - fish and chicken barbecue, hot dogs and burgers, refreshing summer cocktails, cold beers, name it. There was a large fire pit, where guests roasted marshmallows while telling stories including other fun activities like card games, tongue twister, and dance. I was busy saying awwwnn to the love story shared by a couple when this handsome dude walked up to me, smiling. He stretched out his hands saying "shall we dance?". I couldn't resist his charming smile so I offered him my hands and as he gently led me to dance, I knew that was the beginning of our journey together, forever.
After the dance, it was time to wine and dine, which was followed by chit chats and story telling. As usual, Ted was the perfect host, ensuring that everyone was having a great time. He's indeed the life of the party. He cracked jokes, shared funny stories including some of our adventures and vacation to the retroverse. Our guests were wowed and wanted to know more, and he was ready to satisfy their curiosity, hehehe.
It was indeed an exciting, enjoyable and memorable last summer night for everyone and by the time we bided farewell to our last guest, the cool breeze of autumn could be felt so we took a warm bath, lighted up a scented candle, and snuggled into the sofa to see one of our favorite movies, the midsummer's night dream.
