There are a lot of principles in cryptocurrency, but privacy is one of the important factors. You can see that some cryptocurrency projects are anonymous behind this; the purpose is to protect individual rights, but the bad actors, the criminals, misuse this. We have seen a lot of fake projects in the past that have stolen the money of investors.
Balancing anonymity and transparency, pump-and-dump scheme
Here we have to balance the anonymity and transparency, so anonymity should not mean the lack of honesty and transparency. The good thing is that the ethical projects of Crypto are doing practices like on-chain audits, open-source code, and community reporting, and these practices build trust in the community.
Another bad practice, or you can say scheme, is a pump-and-dump scheme, and this scheme still exists in the crypto space, and some influencers are committing this crime against their users. This particular thing is still damaging the reputation of the crypto space, so here, ethical projects should not be involved in such a thing, and avoid manipulative marketing, and their main focus should be on long-term value creation and development.
Mismanaging user deposits and tokenomics tricks
Mismanaging user deposits is also not a good practice, and this particular thing has been done by centralised exchanges and some DeFi platforms as well. Let me give you a major example of this practice, and that was the FTX exchange. Smart contracts and DeFi platforms scammed millions. That is why if you have chosen the ethical way, then it includes security audits, fund management, and clear terms and conditions, and these things ensure the protections the protection of the users.
The project uses tokenomics tricks to trap the users, and you don't even experience it. At a glance, it does not seem illegal, but when you see it ethical way, then it is wrong, and I believe this is a scam. Hidden fees, locking tokens, and slippage are tricks. What is really needed are mechanisms, fair distribution for everyone, and a real use case.
Proof of work and environmental impact
Bitcoin has a proof-of-work mechanism, and similarly, there are many projects that follow this. The problem is that this is the thing that may be criticized, and already, there are many nature lovers criticizing this issue. Ethereum shifted to a proof-of-stake, and that was a great move. Ethically, proof of work is also wrong, so the project should be proof-of-stake, which would not be a reason for carbon emission, support green alternative sources, consider layer 2 solutions, and this is how an ethical project focuses on the project in such a way that doesn't harm the environment.
