What Is GHAWG?

#ghawg is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how ►David Guardia◄²², a courier and ►business◄²³ owner from ►Bayonne, New Jersey◄²⁴, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

7️⃣4️⃣2️⃣ ►[2025-March-07 19:55:06]◄

"Sanjay and I will rescue David, Lindsay, and Lionel," said Rhonda. "You guys cover us until we get them back to their bikes. The store's alarm system notified 911. They can take care of the aftermath. We have people to rescue."

🏍️ Most, it not all shops of all sorts have security systems which automatically notify 911 (or equivalent) of security breaches. ►Rhonda Bella Guardia◄²⁶ was counting on this detail as she instructed the larger part of Felix Legion on how to rescue the smaller part of Felix Legion caught within the danger zone inside ►The Dogemart◄²⁷.

7️⃣4️⃣3️⃣ ►[2025-March-03 00:39:54]◄

One of the gunmen noticed me and the Dogemart owner. He fired at The Dogemart owner, and instinctively I placed my left hand in the way to deflect the bullet. The bullet missed The Dogemart owner; it passed through my left palm.

🏍️ David Guardia may have expected a repeat of his encounter with ►Harry Hoqualogue◄²⁸ of ►The Mongols◄²⁹ at ►STURGIS◄³⁰ when he tried to stop the bullet, but this time the bullet pierced him even as it was diverted. He must have felt pain, but that's not what I was thinking about when I composed this zapfic entry. For the short term story, I had to present an unbelievable situation for the gunman. For the long term, David's pierced left hand will be used in various forms in ►The Bronze◄³¹ and maybe even ►Blue Lion◄³².

7️⃣4️⃣4️⃣ ►[2025-March-04 00:43:06]◄

Lindsay picked up a can which rolled toward her. With adrenaline controlling his brain, Lionel caused a distraction long enough to get the other gunman to shift attention away from Lindsay & to him. She hurled the can at his neck.

🏍️ This is the first time we see the members of Felix Legion handle a life-and-death situation under fire. This is different from the ►daring display of theatricality◄³³ in ►Santa Fe, New Mexico◄³⁴, US when Felix Legion in its current form came into being. ►Fonzie◄³⁵ (►Lindsay Etxeberria◄³⁶) had the chance to buy time for ►Templar◄³⁷ (David Guardia) and ►Quartermaster◄³⁸ (►Lionel Odunsi◄³⁹). Quartermaster had the presence of mind to create a distraction which would allow her to buy them that time.

7️⃣4️⃣5️⃣ ►[2025-March-05 01:41:27]◄

Once that gunman fell, Lionel approached him & made sure he stayed unconscious thanks to a blow to the chin. With one gunman left, I approached him the same way I had Harry while delivering Manny Rey's message to him at Sturgis.

🏍️ This zapfic entry is self-explanatory. However, it sets up a scene reminiscent of the moment at STURGIS when David Guardia (in the time before he assumed the identity Templar) tried to get Harry Hoqualogue to take delivery of the message given to him by the ►uncanny Manny Rey◄⁴⁰.

7️⃣4️⃣6️⃣ ►[2025-March-06 00:17:00]◄

This gunman couldn't believe I was walking toward him, pierced left palm pointing toward him. He just looked at me. For a moment I gave him a penetrating look. Before I could say anything, an improvised chaff bomb surprised him.

🏍️ This zapfic entry seems straightforward, but it has that twist at the end. Recall that ►15 zapfic entries earlier◄⁴¹ the ►Brothers Marchenko◄⁴² were discussing an update to the logo for their business, ►HFBM Customs◄⁴³. That update was going to involve ►glitter◄⁴⁴, to add an iridescent effect. While I knew this glitter was going to be used for another purpose-- as a chaff bomb-- I wasn't sure when that moment would come. Once I determined that the totally fictional town was going to be ►Bolivion, Virginia◄⁴⁵, US, it was just a matter of getting Felix Legion there.

🏍️ The chaff bomb was meant to be used as a means of deception, similar to the smoke bombs Batman, or ninjas, would have used to gain time to escape. However, Felix Legion didn't have anything which could emit smoke. Although ►nitrous oxide cannisters◄⁴⁶ were available, it would have seemed out of place to use laughing gas. So I settled on making up a scene to explain the acquisition of glitter.

7️⃣4️⃣7️⃣ ►[2025-March-07 00:24:12]◄

That moment of deception was all I needed to wrest the rifle away from that gunman. Without thought, I found myself telling this man "God loves you"; he blinked. That's when Rhonda & Sanjay came to get us out of The Dogemart.

🏍️ Before this Weekly Summary post, I had made numerous mentions of the daring display of theatricality; however, the incident at The Dogemart is the first time when I take time to employ deception as part of the story. Interestingly, it was more difficult for me to incorporate deception in Rat Bike, whereas I always intended on writing about some sort of daring display of theatricality. With the scene taking place at The Dogemart, both sides of the "theatricality and deception" coin have been used and revealed.

7️⃣4️⃣8️⃣ ►[2025-March-14 23:24:21]◄

Before we left The Dogemart, the store owner handed me something from behind the counter. It was a pack of tampons. I looked at him; he motioned with his left hand. Then I understood; that was the original purpose of tampons.

🏍️ At least in the United States, tampons have been in the news in recent years because of legislation to make them available in restrooms for males. Some states and towns have enacted such legislation, including the state of Minnesota. However, 🕸️Ancient Egyptians had been using tampons🕸️. While most of us think of them as sanitary packs for female hygiene, they can be found in first-aid packs because of their most important function: to stop the flow of blood. 🕸️Alternative uses🕸️ for tampons exist, but Templar (David Guardia) needed them for his injured left hand, and the owner of The Dogemart knew this.

[7️⃣4️⃣9️⃣ ►[2025-March-09 21:25:39]◄

I was going to thank Rhonda for leading the effort to get us out of The Dogemart. She shook her head.

"It was Sanjay who insisted we get you guys out."

I looked at Sanjay, and he nodded. Lindsay looked at Sanjay with respect.

🏍️ Being the main character of not just ►Rat Bike◄[^Rat-Bike] but the entire GHAWG Universe, it's expected that David Guardia would be involved in some action scenes of some sort or other. His identity as "The Templar" will loom large in the later zapfic serials. He is known as "The Templar" because the logo he designed for ►Guardia Courier Services◄⁴⁷ makes use of the cross associated with the Knights Templar of the Crusades, and these Templars were men of action. Despite being literally warrior monks, the Knights Templar weren't exactly known to be contemplative.

Just by her Felix Legion name ►Shieldmaiden◄⁴⁸, we know that Rhonda Bella Guardia is a woman of action. In some ways, thanks to her work as a trucker for both companies and her own business, she is more of an action person than David.

That's why Templar was surprised to discover that it was ►Triumph◄⁴⁹-- Sanjay Rampersad-- who took the initiative in mounting this rescue effort. Even with the valuable experience he's gained since he joined David on his Epic Ride, Triumph is the least-likely person to involved in this sort of action. Perhaps something clicked in his mind which changed him.

7️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ ►[2025-March-10 00:14:33]◄

Before we left the Dogemart, I left the store owner with a "business card" which had no business information on it. Instead, it featured only my name; my so-called title "At Large"; and an ID for the messaging app named Session.

🏍️ Being on the road for an extended amount of time, and also not knowing where he was going to be living once he kicked off the current phase of his life with what would become his Epic Ride, David Guardia's life was in flux. He still needed to be reachable in some way. Not wanting to use a cellular phone number, he opted for secure messaging instead. So he chose Session for his secured messaging app.

7️⃣5️⃣1️⃣ ►[2025-March-11 00:19:54]◄

"You insisted on rescuing us, Sanjay?"

"Indeed, Lindsay. After all that riding together, I just thought any of us would have done that for the others."

Lindsay gave him a platonic kiss on the cheek before saying "Thank you."

🏍️ During the first days riding out of ►Portland, Oregon◄⁵⁰, US as ►Our Heroes◄⁵¹ were heading to ►San Diego, California◄⁵², US, Lindsay Etxeberria found herself slightly infatuated with Sanjay Rampersad despite being several years older. During this segment of David Guardia's Epic Ride, she rode with Sanjay on his Triumph motorcycle. As the group to become known as Felix Legion rode along the path believed to be used by ►Route 66◄⁵³, Lindsay soured a bit on Sanjay (especially after she discovered that he was set to marry ►Rekha Ramakrishnan◄⁵⁴ once he completed his studies at ►University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill◄⁵⁵) and rode by herself on the ►Victory◄⁵⁶ Rhonda Bella Guardia ►gave her◄⁵⁷ after she and David got married. Even when she was annoyed at Sanjay, Lindsay still respected him from a distance.

7️⃣5️⃣2️⃣ ►[2025-March-12 01:16:12]◄

Rhonda and I secured the gunmen to make sure they couldn't move. Then we rushed out to our bikes and rode out of Bolivion. We reached the area by Dry Fork without incident. Then we realized that we weren't out of the woods yet.

🏍️ This zapfic entry is a transition to the next part of the set piece scene: a chase. It's a chase I had envisioned for David Guardia when the uncanny Manny Rey was his co-pilot, but it didn't turn out as I had anticipated.

7️⃣5️⃣3️⃣ ►[2025-March-13 00:34:42]◄

"Those are the sunzabitches who killed it at The Dogemart!"

Before we knew it, we were being chased by 10 motorcycle riders. The rest of Felix Legion saw our pursuers and left their nitrous oxide cannisters in the ON position.

🏍️ I composed this zapfic entry to give the impression that the 2 gunmen from The Dogemart incident had accomplices. They weren't going to be an organized group like The Mongols or even Felix Legion, but they were going to be trouble all the same. Whatever was going to happen to Felix Legion, it wasn't going to be easy.

7️⃣5️⃣4️⃣ ►[2025-March-14 00:02:45]◄

We made sure to keep them at least a quarter mile behind us. However, before speeding past Spring Garden Road, they were catching up. Unexpectedly, we find ourselves riding toward an explosion before we reached Malmaison Road.

🏍️ This was going to be a moment of truth for Felix Legion, and odds were even that it could go badly for the group. Unlike the daring display of theatricality in Santa Fe, New Mexico, US, there was nothing which could be used as a ramp for jumping over the fire. The only way past this fire was through it. It had become a race against the clock to make sure no one in Felix Legion was harmed by the fire.

7️⃣5️⃣5️⃣ ►[2025-March-15 00:02:00]◄

With an opening before us I scream to Felix Legion "DON'T STOP!"

"You sure?" Lindsay asked me.

"We'll survive that explosion," I scream in response, then adding "they won't."

"Got it!"

"All righty, Felix Legion. PUNCH IT!"

7️⃣5️⃣6️⃣ ►[2025-March-16 00:10:24]◄

Highway 29 was our autobahn, damn the highway patrol. Our window of escape narrowed with each passing millisecond, but we blazed through it. The moment our pursuers reached that opening they were engulfed in flames. All of them.

🏍️ With help from ►The Lord◄⁵⁸, Moses parted the Red Sea to allow the Israelites to cross and to escape Pharaoh's charioteers. 🕸️Once again with help from The Lord🕸️, He allowed Joshua (successor to Moses) to lead the Israelites across the overflowing River Jordan and into The Promised land (which Moses himself never got to see). While not exactly on the scale of either Act of God, it was a miracle for Felix Legion.

7️⃣5️⃣7️⃣ ►[2025-March-17 00:21:09]◄

Even as we sped past Blairs, we heard a series of minor explosions. We knew then we were home free. At some point, Highway 29 became the Danville Expressway. In Danville we decelerated onto Highway 58 before hitting Main Street.

🏍️ This zapfic entry is aa travel entry disguised as part of a set piece scene. Once the chase is determined to be over, the scene is just Felix Legion riding out of southern Virginia into northern North Carolina.

7️⃣5️⃣8️⃣ ►[2025-March-18 00:10:57]◄

We took our time riding south on Main St. in Danville before we crossed into North Carolina, where it became Highway 86. Less than 3 miles into North Carolina we passed by a town named Providence. We paused there to give thanks.

🏍️ This was going to be just a travel entry until I noticed on the digital map the town named Providence. This detail allowed me to compose the next 2 zapfic entries.

7️⃣5️⃣9️⃣ ►[2025-March-19 00:04:21]◄

"Father Almighty, as You parted the Red Sea to lead Your People out of slavery in Egypt, You led us to safety in our time of need. Please bring the deceased innocents to Your side and the deceased guilty to merciful judgment."

🏍️ In terms of Rat Bike, David Guardia compared their escape with the Israelites crossing the Red Sea which had been parted for them by Moses thanks to help from The Lord. He also recognized that the deceased included both innocents and the guilty, and that judgment of the guilty was left to The Lord.

7️⃣6️⃣0️⃣ ►[2025-March-20 00:47:42]◄

"We ask this in Your Name. Amen."

"Amen."

After we gave thanks to The Lord we resumed riding south on Highway 86. We took our time so we could decompress from the harrowing events of the last hour. Yanceyville was behind us.

🏍️ Had Felix Legion moved any slower, Templar and company would have been walking. The amazing thing for them was that it all took place
in the span of an hour: the mass shooting at The Dogemart, Templar getting maimed by gunfire, the rescue, the ride out of Bolivion, the chase by "associates" of the two gunmen, the escape through fire, and the demise of those "associates" of the two gunmen. This hour had changed everyone in Felix Legion forever, because how could it not?

7️⃣6️⃣1️⃣ ►[2025-March-21 00:08:12]◄

From Yanceyville we rode Highway 86 past Hightowers & Prospect Hill. We switched to Elfand-Cedar Grove Rd before riding past the towns bearing those names, plus McDade earlier. At Elfand we switched briefly to Brookhollow Road.

🏍️ This travel entry shows the area near Chapel Hill, home of the University of North Carolina. Felix Legion was close to its destination-- UNC-- and the end of the 5th segment of David Guardia's Epic Ride.

7️⃣6️⃣2️⃣ ►[2025-March-22 00:00:21]◄

Almost as soon as we took Brookhollow Rd we went west on Forrest Avenue for a bit before going south on Mount Willing Rd. As soon as we could, we switched east to I-40. A short time later, Felix Legion had arrived in Chapel Hill.

🏍️ This the the moment they anticipated since riding out of ►Chicago, Illinois◄⁵⁹, US five days earlier. However, even this milestone is not enough to allow Felix Legion to call it a day to get much-needed rest. In some ways, this is just the beginning of the end of the ride for The Kids.

Story Arc So Far

Felix Legion found itself in the middle of a mass shooting in the (fictional) store called The Dogemart in the (fictional) town of Bolivion, Virginia. Templar (David Guardia), Quartermaster (Lionel Odunsi), and Fonzie (Lindsay Etxeberria) were inside the Dogemart. Shieldmaiden (Rhonda Bella Guardia), Rothbard (Frank Marchenko), Nitrous (Hank Marchenko), and Triumph (Sanjay Rampersad) were outside The Dogemart. While the riders outside The Dogemart knew they had to rescue their three comrades, it took Triumph's rash decision to rescue Fonzie by himself if necessary to catalyze a plan of action.

Quartermaster created a distraction which allowed Fonzie to bring down one gunman with a throw of a canned item. Templar prevented another senseless death from taking place, and in the process sustained a left palm pierced by gunfire. Templar was about to persuade the lone gunman standing to stop when the rest of Felix Legion employed deception in the form of a chaff bomb made using glitter. The seconds bought by that exercise in deception allowed the rescue to succeed. The two gunmen were bound and subdued. The owner of The Dogemart, grateful for being saved by Templar, offered Templar a pack of tampons for his maimed left palm.

Once back on the road, Felix Legion was pursued by ten riders believed to be connected with the two gunmen. As the ten riders were closing in on Felix Legion, a wall of fire formed due to an explosion. An opening which was narrowing presented itself to Felix Legion. Once past this wall of fire, the opening disappeared and consumed the ten riders.

A short time later, Felix Legion left southern Virginia and crossed into northern North Carolina. Almost as soon as they entered North Carolina, Felix Legion paused at Providence to give thanks to The Lord for allowing them to escape from certain death. From there, Felix Legion traveled slowly until reaching Chapel Hill, home of the most famous campus of the University of North Carolina.
