Hey, drink lovers!

Hope you're having a great day? How's the weather in your area? Here in Venezuela, specifically in my city, which is on the coast at the eastern end of the country. Nice sea and bright sunshine, but--oh boy!--these days I wish I was surrounded by snow. This heat is positively oppressive... 36° C, which doesn't seem like much, but you have to add dense humidity, sea spray that reaches far distances, and blinding, scorching sun glare.

This drink is basically a mixture of hibiscus and ginger infusion with a little lemon, and sweetened naturally with watermelon. But in this blend of simple ingredients, there's a load of antioxidants and nutrients that will do our body a lot of good: our blood pressure will go down, our digestion will go smoothly, we'll be refreshed and will enjoy the natural sweetness of the fruit without having to add any sugar. So this beautifully colored and simple looking drink is just what we needed for a hot day and a lot of work at home.

INGREDIENTS

For about 2 liters:

  • 75 gr ginger

  • 4 fulspoons hibiscus

  • 1.5 lt watermelon juice

  • about 500 ml water

  • 30 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • some fresh lemon slices

THE PROCESS

Wash the ginger root well and peel it with the edge of a spoon. Cut it in slices of about 3 ml and mash it...

...I used a flat-tipped pestle to mash it directly in the pot where I was going to infuse it with the dried hibiscus flowers.

Add about 200 ml of water and let it simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.

While the infusion is cooling...

Wash the watermelon, remove the rind, remove all the seeds...

...and put it in the blender.

I had to do it in two batches because it was a lot of watermelon... Mix the ginger and hibiscus infusion with very cold water, about 300 ml, and mix it with the watermelon smoothie.

...For this, you must strain it.

Lemon time!

I used two large lemons. I squeezed one and sliced the other one.

The slices of lemon in the drink bring freshness that the thirsty and tired body appreciates very much.

As soon as you serve the drink, the refreshing aroma comes out and perfumes the air. Delicious!
