Hey, foodies in the hive!

I hope you had a great weekend 😁

Do you enjoy eating out at steakhouses? I hadn't visited one in a decade. And although I don't like to eat beef often, I must admit that I enjoyed the food at this steak house immensely even when it was a lot of meat and had eaten beef the day before.

The place is Los Asadores, Casa de Carnes; it opened about 15 years ago and has thrived despite the economic crisis and the long list of complications in this beautiful but battered country that is #venezuela. It has a homey vibe that is quite inviting.

The warm lighting and its sober, traditional decoration in wood and earth colors with impeccable white table linens & brown cloth napkins, and--really important--polite waiters give this place the necessary character to make us customers feel well attended and relaxed, so we can enjoy their good food.

Los asadores Restaurant is a place you must visit if you're looking for cuts of good quality meat and fresh & varied salads, and you don't mind paying a little more than what you'd pay in an average restaurant. They have a incredible cecina--not to be confused with Spanish cecina, which is a kind of curated meat like ham--. This cecina I'm taling about is one of the national cuts they have here: it's made from the top round, which is filleted very thin and then spread out and salted on both sides and laid outdoors to dry in the sun for a couple of hours, then it's folded again and hung in some tubes to cool down before it's stored/cooked.

Ah, we ate to our heart's content 😁 The sides were a dream: boiled cassava topped with parsley mojito, grilled, steamed & raw veggies, mashed potatoes, fresh cheese, pico de gallo, wasakaka, and spicy sauce.

This #restaurant is located on Américo Vespucio Avenue, across from the CC Caribbean Mall.

Google Maps

They have these big grills inside the restaurant. I was worried that the smell of roast beef would stick to my hair and clothes, but nope. I was fine.

I think the grills were about ten meters away from our table, but you could clearly see the cook's work as he grilled the meats and vegetables. Oh, and the fire 👨‍🍳 🔥

MENU

They have a varied menu, with just as many options as they can handle it to offer customers excellent quality and a short waiting time. And it's a good thing that the prices are there, something that I'm afraid happens less and less frequently lately.

They have a good collection of wines. You can see them upstairs from your table.

SERVICE & ATTENTION

The waiters here are extraordinarily friendly and respectful and guide you very well on what you should order according to what you want to eat. They bring the cuts of meat directly from the grills, still smoking, which I love and reminds me with a lot of nostalgia of the steakhouses that used to be in my city, now so long gone. Back then, about 40 years ago, you could afford to come to a place like that every weekend, pay out of pocket, no biggie. So totally different now.

MY ORDER

After a couple of cups of sangria...

The waiters brought the sauces: pico de gallo, wasakaka, and spicy sauce.

It was a big order--huge indeed, so I was happy it wasn't my treat 🙈--for all of us: various cuts of meat, grilled vegetables, fresh salad (lettuce mixum, red onion, cucumber, tomato, avocado) with palm hearts and dressed with classic olive oil + freshly cracked black pepper, boiled cassava topped with parsley mojito, fresh cheese, and some sauces.

My plate was full, but the food kept coming--and I kept eating 😁 It was one of those days where you drink and eat like there's no tomorrow, haha. Perhaps you haven't had one of those because you're decent, which honestly makes me feel like a sinner 🙄

The meat was medium rare as I like it. The vegetables were super fresh and flavorful with no added salt; one of my favorites was the grilled onion. It was fantastic. And I have to say that their mashed potatoes are the best I've tasted in a restaurant so far. The steamed vegetables were tender and crunchy, excellent in my opinion.

They brought desserts, but I wasn't able to eat anything else. The boys (our friends' sons) ordered custard.

I ordered an espresso instead.

THE CHECK

As you can see below, the average was about $50 per costumer--we were seven people--. I think it was expensive, but considering everything we ate and drank, I think it's pretty good, honestly, especially if you consider that after so much wine and beef, you won't be able to eat anything else for a couple of days 😂

All text and images are my own. I have taken the pictures with my Redmi 9T cell phone. And if any GIFs here, I've used GIPHY for all them.
