Hello dear friends of this beautiful community of Architecture and Design. On this occasion I have the pleasure of showing you a beautiful construction that, although it is not very old, it is very beautiful and majestic, it is the Jesus de Miramar Church, although its official name is Church of Christ the King.
This temple is located on Quinta Ave, a very important avenue in the city of Havana. It is a fast road and whenever I was passing by car it always caught my attention because it is a very beautiful construction, I was curious to know its interior. Recently I was walking through this area and found that the church was open, so I did not miss the opportunity to see this architectural jewel.
First I took a close look at its exterior, it is a very strong and well preserved construction, the roof is gabled. When we look at it from the side we can see a large octagonal dome that reminds me of the Havana Capitol because of its large size.
At the entrance there is a sign with the schedule of the different activities, it is open every day, offering masses, baptisms and attention to the needy through the delivery of medicines and clothes.
The façade has three large wooden doors, the central door was open so I decided to enter.
The first thing that strikes me upon entering is the large symbol on the floor that characterizes this congregation, which is a letter S pierced by a nail, and when I look up I am surprised by the beauty and majesty of its interior. It is very large and very well cared for, although it is really very young because it dates from 1953. There is a mural where you can read about the historical and artistic data of this Roman Byzantine style work that is attended by Capuchin religious.
The interior is high, very spacious with vaulted ceiling, decorated arches and marble columns of different colors distributed throughout the interior. There are multiple glass windows that allow the entrance of sunlight that is very intense, there is a lot of clarity and the ventilation is excellent.
There are two rows of large wooden benches separated by the central aisle. The floor is beautifully decorated. All along the upper part of the walls on both sides and throughout the interior are beautiful murals depicting different scenes from the Stations of the Cross. I was able to take a close look at several confessionals made of precious wood.
The aisle leads to the main altar of Christ the King, a replica of the one in the Basilica of Our Father of Jesus of Medinaceli in Madrid. To the sides of the main altar there are two chapels, one to venerate our patron saint of Cuba, the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre and the other dedicated to Santa Ana.
At the top, on the second floor above the main door you can see a very large pipe organ.
The atmosphere of peace, silence, serenity and freshness invited me to sit down, at this moment I could appreciate every detail that I had before me and at the same time I began to meditate on many things of our hectic life, this period of time filled me with peace and when I left the church I felt renewed.
On both sides of the church there are several side doors leading to large courtyards. I went out through the right side door and noticed that at the back of the courtyard there is an artificial grotto, I approached and saw an image of Our Lady of Lourdes, known as the patron saint of the sick, very close there is a statue of a woman kneeling praying, it is a very nice set surrounded by ornamental plants. This is an imitation of the Lourdes grotto in France.
I was really surprised to see so much beauty, everything taken care of in detail, I was pleased and I left with a lot of inner peace. I hope you enjoyed seeing this architectural work.
