A Corrupted State: Police Charges, Political Battles and a New Chapter
It has been a while since I gave my InLeo community a proper update on what has been happening in our lives. It has been full on and my family has been navigating police charges, political conflict and the pressure that comes with publicly challenging people in positions of power.
It has been exhausting, but we are still here still speaking up and now entering a new chapter combating our former political party out on the streets in the upcoming Victorian State Election.
My wife, Ashleigh Vandenberg who has won two local elections and combated for roads, infrastructure and services has decided to go all the way and is running for the Victorian state seat of Sydenham as an independent, taking on our former party, the Victorian Labor Party.
Police and suspension: State Declares War
The most difficult parts of this period has been facing police charges involving conduct that I regard as connected to my political activity and public advocacy. I have always disputed how I have been characterised. The wider political context proves I am acting lawfully and not unlawfully, and I have serious concerns about how these matters have been handled with the use of threats both from thugs and police.
As much of it is still before the courts and investigations underway I can't talk to much about it. What I can speak about directly is the personal impact. When your name becomes attached to allegations, the consequences reach beyond a courtroom. They affect your reputation, your ability to work, your relationships and your family’s sense of security.
There is also the constant effort of responding: reading documents, keeping records, preparing correspondence and trying to have your concerns properly considered. It takes time and energy away from ordinary family life. All of it by design by the state to block the political motion growing across the state of Victoria in which we commenced to bring down the Victorian Labor Party. ALL Lawful ALL Political.
From State Government Attempting to Take us out, To us gunning for them
The Victorian Government also moved on Ash's Council role as she came forward to expose organised crime and corruption within the Victorian Labor Party who had infiltrated the Victorian Government. We believe her efforts to raise concerns about alleged corruption and government accountability are an important part of the context surrounding the political conflict and proves the extreme lengths Government's go to to hide their corruption.
Watching your partner go through that experience is difficult. You see the pressure behind the public statements and the effect it has at home.
The suspension, The Police and the attacks have not changed why Ashleigh entered public life. She remains committed to representing residents, questioning decisions and seeking answers about how public money is spent.
People should be able to expect scrutiny from their elected representatives. Asking uncomfortable questions is part of that responsibility.
With 27 days left until the state election and a swelling of local support, The Western Suburbs of Melbourne for the very first time may in fact have that Red Wall of Labor destroyed creating history.
It shows what communities can do when they stand up united to take on organised crime, take on corrupt government officials and wannabe Gangsters.
