Still feeling the excitement of the Nigerian movie I had seen and shared a review days ago, I checked out for another movie to see with my mum because she was asking for a movie to see and I knew she'd prefer a Nigerian movie like the last one we saw. I downloaded one out of the random and it turned out to be worth reviewing.
"Beauty Is the Beast" is the title and I mistook it for "Beauty and the beast" until I read again. The title does suit the storyline well enough... Since it's a story about a two faced personality. Turns out there were even more two faced personalities as the story progressed, making it interesting and with good suspense to keep the story engaging.
The story explores the theme of family and drama as a couple is visited by the guy's mother, who dislikes the lady he is planning to marry. The mother is problematic but soft and sick inside, the guy is nonchalant, lazy and in love with his beautiful fiancee, the lady is hardworking and trying to prove to her future mother in-law that she is indeed the best wife for her son. Over time, the story reveals that the lady is not who she claims to be, by background and it brought suspicion until she is caught to face new reality.
The opening scene was so out of it for me but as we continued the story, it reminded me again what it means to not judge a book by it's cover because the story got better. I love the character who played the mother role, she is actually one of the reasons I downloaded the movie to see with my mum. It was a bit sad her story ended in the story but her charisma and speech were on point.
Other two characters I enjoyed most in the story are the family members of the lady from the ghetto. They acted so foolishly but very loud in the foolishness and it made it so funny to watch. The twist in the story was also good and unexpected but it didn't make much sense after everything, still it was a good story and nice end.
The movie is far low than the standard of the last Nigerian movie I saw but I understand to a good extent why it is like that, the veteran actor in the other movie was a lot of bar high on the standard. This movie has more new actors so I'll say they did well in their acting to tell the story.
