Two days ago, I saw the Nigerian movie that has been trending everywhere. I first saw a short remark about the movie in my cousin's WhatsApp status and I asked for the title because I saw one of the character that I am very familiar with since my childhood... Emeka Ike. I was so surprised to see him and see he's aged a lot, I hurried to see.
My whole experience seeing the movie was so good and actually beyond what I was expecting to see. It's one of the few Nigerian movies I didn't try to get what to expect before I downloaded it, I just trust that an old actor coming back on screen will not act just any standard and yes, he did raise the standards in all aspects of the story.

"Mother's Bargain" is a recent release Nigerian movie starring Emeka Ike, Chineye Nnebe and Charity Onah. The movie reveals a different kind of love, patience and the confusing love of a mother. I say it's confusing for many reasons and it started right from the first scene of the story, I actually had to call my mum to see it with me lol.
Mind you, I asked her to join me because I could already the mother character in the movie is very opposite to the kind of mother she is to me, I wanted her to appreciate herself more because I know she'd be wiser in dealing with a lifetime decision like the one in this story. Well, that's by the way and here is my thought about the movie.
A Summary of the Story
Adaora, a 23 year old lady in a beautiful relationship, meets Chief Coker, a 60 year old divorcee. From the first time he sees her, he decided to have her as his wife according to his discussion with Adoara's mother. From a 200k for transport, Chief Coker got a new car for Adoara and other gifts in hopes that she will come around. The mother kept taking the gifts.
With her beautiful relationship, Adaora refuses to even look at Chief Coker even after all her mother's persuasion to consider him as a husband while she badmouths the boyfriend she has. On the long run, something unexpected happened to the boyfriend and he turned out to be an almost mistake to marry him. It hurt Adoara for months till she accepted Chief Coker.
My Personal Thoughts
First of all, Emeka Ike taking the role of Chief Coker to a new age actress and not as a father or uncle but as a suitor to husband, felt weird and unsettling for me. Even though I enjoyed the movie, I felt the age difference was so much and they could have used another actor for the character because I've watched him from his youth days playing romantic roles in stories too.
But then, I doubt anyone could have played Chief Coker as good as he did it. I especially love his character through out the story, that says a lot how he still has his acting charm with him even as he has aged so much. I like Adaora's character too, I mean, all her actions felt right until she got married and her acting doesn't make any sense.
And the mother! Oh my! I was so glad the story came to a close a few scene after her death because that woman was the whole vibe in the story. Even though she was like both a good mother and a villain in the life of chief Coker, she had all the vibes that kept the story refreshing and fun, from her awkward laughs to her bad advices to her daughter, it was an interesting one.
I'll stop here and hope you check out the movie on YouTube, I'll leave the link for you. It's a good movie that will remind you what real love should look like, just don't look at the age difference lol. Love doesn't know age, it just loves and this story says it all. Do let me know if you've seen it too.
