The world has changed a whole lot since my days in secondary school to the university. And I mean, changed in how there are way too much information flying around now compared to before. Thanks to social media, content creation and the unending push to be yourself, there's too much to share to and consume from the internet.
Just a few years ago, you won't see teenagers doing all sort of things on social media and the same goes for adults (teachers or staffs). Lives were a lot private before than now, people now share whatever they feel like today and it says a lot about how much rules should change around any sector depending on how it's affecting them.
So when the prompt question ask if it's okay for schools to monitor the social media posts of its staff and students, my response is I think it totally depends on if the school have had issues with social media and their school rules before. Has there been breach to the school morals by staffs and students with social media before?
Well, I also think that it's highly likely that there could have been a breach from any of them but if there was no rule, there won't be need to monitor them. So if schools will monitor social media of their students or staffs, they must state it as a rule first so their students and staffs are aware to be mindful of what they share on their accounts.

Social media or the internet is actually not totally outside school's jurisdiction because it's today's world and I see a lot of schools coming out on social media to promote why their schools are the best for kids to attend. If the staffs and students will identify themselves to the school, they have to be responsible about their contents.
The school will struggle if viewers find a student or staff with a social media profile that doesn't speak anything good about who they are, but are identifying that they belong to the school. Today's world is filled with criticism more than before, schools coming out online should be ready for that and also inform their staffs and students.
Personally, I don't see much of what is a breach of privacy in a school monitoring its staffs and students social media accounts, so long the school is actually involved in using social media as a means to grow their numbers or something. And it's not a breach of privacy because what they've posted on social media is public already.
There's no perfect way of doing this but there can be a balance to how staffs and students can be more responsible with what they share on their social media accounts, especially when the school has rules guiding morale standards. School is not only a place for book learning, there are way more to learn and it includes morality.
Well, these are my thoughts about the prompt.
