Gratitude is the state of being grateful. Gratitude is all about appreciating the little things.

I was at a point in my life where I didn't find any reason to be happy. I would complain bitterly everyday because things weren't going my way. I was drowning in a sea of negativity because I wasn't grateful for anything.

So here's my gratitude story and journey

My friend Gomina shared on his Whatsapp status about how being grateful and writing at least one thing that he's most grateful for into a mini jar everyday transformed his life.

I was Intrigued by this and decided to try it out. Everyday at night, I would mindfully write down one thing I was most grateful for for that day and fold the paper into my jar.
For the first few weeks, it was very tiring and it felt like a chore that I was forced to do.
But as days and weeks, and months passed by, I started to notice tiny changes in my perspectives towards life. I would start my day with a positive mindset, looking for things to be grateful for.

Gratitude is all about appreciating the things around you.

I started appreciating the little things happening around me. From seeing my siblings healthy and sound, to eating a home cooked meal, and having a good conversation with a friend. these were things I was grateful for but I took for granted.

After a couple of months, I was at peace with myself(even tho not 100%) I could tell that I had something worth living for . I was content with what I had because not many people were privileged to have just as little as I did . I was content with my little life and the things I had. On some days I would complain about the type of food I ate saying it's not enough. But until I started writing into my gratitude jar, just having food on my table was enough to be grateful for.

Gratitude helped me to focus on what I had, rather that hoping and wishing in pain for the things I didn't have.
Practicing gratitude helped me to focus on the good, even in the midst of challenges .

At the end of the year, I took out my jar, poured out all my papers and read everything I had written down in my gratitude jar and there was really so much to be grateful for indeed. This helped me to reflect on the areas which I needed to grow, and it also helped boost my self worth.

Being grateful made me very happy and also I saw the beauty in everything that life has to offer. From watching the sunrise to sunset, to drinking a bottle of freshyo yoghurt and also being able to eat suya, but most importantly, being alive to see a brand new day.
Practicing this gave me a positive outlook on life , and I would always face everyday despite the disappointment with a smile and would always find something to be grateful for.

There's so much to be grateful for if only you'd just stop wishing for the things you don't have and start appreciating the little you have . Untill then, You'll see everything falling in place for you.
