Splinterlands isn't just an ordinary card game; it demands the constant use of intellect and precise strategy. Every match features new opponents, varying mana caps, and different rulesets, ensuring that no two matches are ever alike. Today, I played a special match in the Modern Ranked League that was thrilling and enjoyable from start to finish.
As soon as the match began, my opponent's name—Quest777, a skilled player from the 'Cypher Seven' guild—appeared on the screen. On the other side, I entered the fray representing the 'YGG Brawlers Nidavellir' team under the name Mirjaiki. The mana cap for this match was set at 40—a generous limit that allowed for the selection of large, powerful cards. However, the most intriguing aspects of the match were its two special rulesets. The first was 'Outsider,' which gave us the opportunity to use a 'Wild' unit. The second rule was highly risky and strategic: 'Collateral Damage' (or 'Reckless'). The core mechanic of this rule is that whenever a card successfully attacks, it also deals 1 point of damage to the friendly card positioned next to it.
After fully grasping the 'Collateral Damage' rule, I planned my team composition. While many players typically field a full set of six cards, doing so under this rule would cause the cards to damage each other during attacks. Therefore, instead of filling the lineup with numerous cards, I decided to select a smaller number of cards that were exceptionally powerful and durable. I selected a 'Tactics' summoner and positioned a powerful tank card—featuring massive armor and high health—at the front of my team. Behind it, I placed balanced offensive cards capable of dealing heavy damage from a safe distance. My opponent, meanwhile, chose an Earth team led by the Level 4 summoner 'Lyanna Natura,' which boosted the health of every card in their lineup by one point. They fielded a full squad of six cards, including a bear, various magic units, and a 'Creeping Ooze.'
Intense excitement filled the arena as the battle commenced. Both teams traded blows during the first round. Although the opponent launched repeated attacks, my frontline tank—with its superior armor and health—held firm. Meanwhile, due to the 'Reckless' rule, several of the opponent's cards inadvertently damaged their own allies while attempting to attack. By the third round, the tide of the battle had shifted decisively in my favor. My back-line attackers completely demolished the opponent's frontline bear and primary defensive card. With their defensive wall shattered, their weaker, low-health cards were left exposed.
The opponent was unable to stage a comeback in the fourth and fifth rounds; their cards were eliminated one by one. Their 'Creeping Ooze' and weaker magic units could not withstand my team's relentless assault. Finally, in the sixth round, a decisive strike took out their last remaining unit, securing total victory over the enemy forces. Instantly, the message of triumph flashed across the screen in bold letters. It was incredibly satisfying to secure such a brilliant victory through a well-planned six-round battle.
My joy was further amplified by the rewards received after the match; this victory boosted my ranking by a significant 40 points. As a result, my total rating reached 1300 points, and I was promoted to the Silver II league. Additionally, I received approximately 0.848 SPS tokens and 448 Glint points as in-game rewards. I also made progress toward earning the daily reward—or quest chest.
Today’s match in Splinterlands demonstrates that victory isn't guaranteed simply by fielding a large number of cards; rather, true success comes from understanding the rules and conditions to place the right cards in the right positions. Thanks to sound tactics and a solid defense, I was able to easily defeat my opponent, even under the challenging 40-mana rule set. The experience of this engaging game and the rewards I earned made my day truly enjoyable. I look forward to playing many more such matches in the future and further boosting my rating.
