Splinterlands, a popular blockchain-based strategy card game, is one of my personal favorites. Every match here serves as a fresh test of one’s strategic thinking. I recently played an exceptional match in the Modern Ranked League (Bracket III, Division 7). I am sharing this account to recount that thrilling battle—defined by a limited mana cap and a well-crafted lineup—and the joy of securing a victory.

Battle Background and Rules

The match featured a mana cap of just 24. Building a team under such a tight mana constraint is always challenging, as a single misstep can cost you the entire match.

  • My Team (MIRZAIQI - YGG Brawlers): I entered the fray using the Earth Splinter.
  • Opponent (DRULAAM - Archmage Scholar): My opponent opted for the formidable Water Splinter, utilizing the popular Level 5 Summoner, Kelya Frendor, which grants all monsters +1 Speed and +1 Armor.

Strategy and Team Selection

To counter the opponent’s rapid attacks and bonus armor, I assembled a balanced and strategic lineup:

  1. Tank (Frontline): I positioned the powerful monster, Terraceous Grunt, as the primary tank. Its impressive health and ‘Dodge’ ability proved perfect for thwarting the opponent’s assaults.
  2. Taunt and Magic Power: My trump card was Mycelic Slipspawn. Its ‘Taunt’ ability draws all enemy attacks toward itself, keeping my other cards safe; meanwhile, its 3-point magic attack pierces directly through the opponent’s armor to deal damage.
  3. Backline Damage and Support: I positioned archers and supporting ranged/magic monsters in the back row, which helped dismantle the opponent's front line from a distance.

Exciting Moments of the Battle

  • Round 1: As the battle began, the opponent bolstered their entire team with speed and armor. However, my Mycelic Slipspawn drew all incoming attacks toward itself. This allowed my main tank and back-row attackers to continue their assault at full strength, completely unscathed.
  • Round 2: This was the turning point of the match. The opponent's monsters became preoccupied with attacking my Taunt monster. Seizing this opportunity, my entire squad launched a combined strike that instantly depleted the massive health and armor of the opponent's front line, shattering their primary defense.
  • Round 3: With their front line broken, the opponent's weaker back-row cards were forced to the front. My Terraceous Grunt, positioned at the front, remained standing firm. As the opponent's damage dealers moved forward, they were defeated one by one by my powerful onslaught.
  • Round 4: By the final round, only one of the opponent's monsters remained. A coordinated attack from my entire team easily took it down, and the long-awaited "VICTORY!" message appeared on the screen.

Through this memorable victory, I earned:

  • +40 Rating Points (bringing my total rating to 1040).
  • +1,790 Reward Points.
  • +386 Glint.

There is an incredible feeling that comes from outsmarting an opponent—much like a skilled Archmage. In this match, with a limited 24-mana cap, precise positioning and the effective use of the Taunt ability were the keys to securing this remarkable win. It is precisely such wonderful moments in Splinterlands
that make the game more engaging and thrilling with each passing day!
