I had a fantastic time playing Splinterlands today. After spending considerable time strategizing with various decks, I entered a match in Division Seven of the Modern Ranked format. Upon searching for a match, I was paired against a player named Gaiorn. The entire battle was intense and thrilling.

The mana cap for the match was set at 28—a limit that allows for neither excessively high-cost cards nor solely low-power ones, making survival challenging with weak cards alone. The active ruleset was "Holy Protection." Under this rule, every monster gains a "Divine Shield," which completely protects it from the opponent's first direct attack. Keeping the ruleset and mana cap in mind, I quickly set about assembling my team.

I chose the Earth Splinter for this match and selected Fernheart as my Summoner. This Summoner boosts the health of the entire team and enables ranged-attack monsters to strike even from the front line. I positioned Terraceous Grunt as the primary tank in the front row, as it boasts high health and a strong ability to evade enemy attacks. Behind it, I arranged several ranged and magic cards to swiftly strike the enemy's core forces once their shields were broken.

On the other hand, my opponent chose the Water Splinter and used Kelya Frendul as their Summoner. This Summoner granted their entire team an extra point of speed and an extra point of armor. In the context of the "Holy Protection" ruleset, this additional armor and speed gave the opponent a significant advantage, further bolstering their defenses.

As soon as the battle began, a fierce contest unfolded between the two teams. Initially, both teams were busy trying to break each other's Divine Shields. However, due to their superior speed, the opposing monsters managed to attack before mine. Faced with these swift attacks and the opponent's extra armor, my team came under considerable pressure after the first few rounds. My frontline tank monster tried to hold the line by enduring the enemy's blows for as long as possible.

The battle dragged on for nine rounds, with every monster on the field fighting fiercely until the very end. Ultimately, my team succumbed to the opponent's superior speed and relentless attacks, resulting in a loss of 20 rating points.

Despite the defeat, the match was thoroughly enjoyable. One of the best aspects of Splinterlands is the opportunity to learn new strategies in every game. This match clearly demonstrated the importance of speed in the "Holy Protection" ruleset and how extra armor can turn the tide of a battle. Win or lose, playing such an exciting match was a great experience and has inspired me to prepare even better for future games.
