I knew that it was going to be quite difficult to do this. When I told my partner, Tengo, that I would be answering this prompt, I had a feeling that I may struggle with this one because I have read so many books to be able to just pick one. I do not only juggle fiction but also self-help materials, and some that have knowledge of the universe.
If I were to recommend, I would start with the “once-4-life” wonders. You know those books that you read once and can’t bring yourself to read again because your heart broke into a million pieces but it was so good that you can never forget it? Well, I have a book like that. It still sits in my e-library and it is fiction. I was in tears and a blubbering mess reading A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole.
This book definitely did a number on me because I had no courage to read any of her works after that. Despite the beautiful reviews and the praises for the sequel (the story of the side character), I just couldn’t bring myself to get them. What if they finished what the previous book started and left my heart aching? The thing is, this book wasn’t your typical tragedy, it was a dreamy tragedy. Tillie took emotions, stripped them down and wrapped them in words then put them in a book. The whole buildup and the fall was painfully beautiful. Beautiful pain.
Well, that was one of them. This other one is also fiction but this time it is a series, dark and psychologically warping. It is not for the weak and written by my favourite author (God rest her soul) C.M Owens but she used an alias for this S.T ABBY. If you by chance noticed that taking out the dot would leave you with Stabby, then you have a preview of what this looks like. It is labelled The Mindfuck Series and with good reason because it will fuck with your mind. You find yourself on the line between good and evil as the observer. It is a whole new kind of genre if you ask me and I have read the whole series twice because I needed to adequately review it, hence the second read. If you are ‘life is rainbows and sunshine’ type, maybe don’t read. Ah, then we have Verity by Colleen Hoover… oof! I am rambling. See why I said it would be difficult? Verity is a book I couldn’t read more than once but left me feeling like I was a better person than I was reading it. I am laughing…
When it comes to self-help material, I always say that The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy is a must read at least once in your lifetime. It is a book of secrets, secrets that when explored will blow your mind. Another is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, a classic one. This is a book that can’t be overlooked no matter how many years old. This book and the author, will guide your imagination if you let them and show you just how to harness unseen resources for your success. The last but not the least and one of my absolute favourites is The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell. I read this book once every three months to assess my growth and then evaluate them. It always comes in handy when I feel like I have hit a wall. A true gem that hasn’t lacked its power despite the ages. This is why they say, the faintest pen is more powerful than the sharpest memory. So many ways to attribute that saying.
Well, I hope I haven’t bored you all with my book talk. If you do happen to read any of these or have read any of these, please leave us a comment telling us what you think about it. You can also go on to tell us what your favourite book is, or movies. Leave it in the comment section.
