Arepas Venezolana de harina de maiz rellenas de Jamón y

queso blanco [ESP/ENG]

Ingredientes

  • 3 tazas de harina de maiz
  • 4 y 1/2 taza de agua
  • 100 gramos de jamón de pierna
  • 100 gramos de queso blanco de cabra
  • margarina al gusto
  • kechup, mostaza y mayonesa

Paso a paso

Venezuelan cornmeal arepas stuffed with ham and

white cheese

Good evening, friends who love good food and fine dining and who read my posts in the @hivefood community. It’s a pleasure to greet you. I invite you to join me on my blog.

Today I’m stopping by this community to share a very Venezuelan recipe with you. There isn’t a single home in Venezuela that doesn’t enjoy the famous, traditional arepas at some meal—be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Arepas can be filled with whatever filling you like; in my case, I filled them with ham and white cheese and added ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard. I also spread a little chiffon margarine on top to moisten them slightly and give them that special touch that makes them even more delicious.

I have to say they turned out really delicious, and my family loved them. It’s the first time I’ve used this much sauce to fill arepas, but I don’t regret it because they turned out incredibly delicious and had an amazing texture. Well, my arepas don’t turn out as round, thin, and pretty as my husband’s—maybe because I have small hands. Mine come out a little thicker, but they do have a pretty soft texture, since the softness comes from kneading, and I try to knead them very well.

Now I’ll list the ingredients I used and the step-by-step instructions

Ingredients

  • 3 cups corn flour
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 100 grams ham
  • 100 grams white goat cheese
  • margarine to taste
  • ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise

Step by Step

The first thing I did was put the water, salt, and corn flour in a bowl. I started kneading and worked the dough thoroughly until it became smooth and pliable, then let it rest for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, place the griddle on the stove until it’s very hot, then start making the arepas. Wipe the griddle clean and place the arepas on it. Cook them, flipping them occasionally on both sides. Once they’re golden brown or after 20 minutes, they’re ready.

Gather the filling ingredients, cut each one open with a knife, spread margarine on them, add the ham, grated goat cheese,
mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard, close them up, and plate.
