We all live in a rapidly moving world where we hardly take a break to see around ourselves being chased by the next moment of instant happiness. In fact, last night when I returned home with my friends after having an amusing dinner where I ate pizza, I was in high spirits, talking loudly and totally lost in the excitement of the evening without any worry or botheration in my mind. Suddenly, at one point of time, my eyes wandered towards a rickshaw, and my whole atmosphere changed and became absolutely silent.
Two ladies who seemed to be more than fifty years old were sitting tightly on the extreme rear end of that open rickshaw. Their tired looks were quite indicative that they were coming back after having a tiring and laborious day. Observing their tiredness, an agonizing thought came to my mind immediately because really I have come across many instances (where old age ladies earn their livelihood through hard labor)...

The Burden of Unwanted Silence
I could not see any sign of humor in myself and in the end I found myself just staring at the road when I cycled completely silently. My friends were talking but I found my mind lost in deep thoughts regarding the obligations towards the family and the real truth behind aging parents. The feeling of pain was unbearable because of the reality that mature children forced their aged parents to work instead of giving them relaxation.
An individual father happily feeds and dresses four or five kids all alone without having any complaint about the economic burden. He sacrifices himself to the point where sometimes he even skips meals and wears torn clothes just to provide his children the best he can. However, as soon as those four kids grow up and become mature, they find it difficult to look after just two of them. It is really scary to see that one or two or three or even more matured men are unable to look after their parents who worked very hard for them in their whole life.
An Issue about Our Humanity
This experience led me to ask myself if there are any other people out there who feel the same crushing sensation of empathy upon seeing the hardships that strangers undergo. It leads to wondering about our basic humanity and our ability to slowly lose the capability to empathize with our own silent suffering elders. How would we have reacted if our parents decided to abandon us when we were children and utterly helpless in our survival? While they have chosen to defend us when we were vulnerable, it is now acceptable for society to allow the abandonment of the elders when they need us the most.
"Humanity isn't judged by how well we party in our time of happiness, but by how we keep our elders away from their toughest winter."
The Unbreakable Bond
All these tough, confusing queries have been tormenting my mind, but finally, they all lead me to the one and only absolute truth that our family means to us. We should never abandon our parents and siblings no matter how hard things get and even if we get stuck into any type of financial crisis in our life. Hardship will definitely come in one way or another, but don’t forget what Allah says in Qur'An "For Indeed, with hardship, [will be] ease". However, the real power of a human being is to remain firm like a shield for his family. I may not say anything else right now, but now my heart is more resolved than before.
Ever had such a situation where everything seems to shatter you at once?
