Hello, anime fans. Today we’re back with more animated series that I watched earlier this year and that I absolutely loved. This time, we’re going to take a break from fantasy and action to tell you about a unique and very special romance anime. It’s a series that no one expected to see and that everyone loved—myself included, of course. Love Through a Prism is an original web anime (ONA) created by Yoko Kamio and produced by Wit Studio. I invite you to discover one of the best romance animes out there today.

Esta vez vamos a alejarnos un rato de la fantasía y la acción para hablarles de un anime de romance único y bastante especial. Una obra que nadie esperaba ver y que a todo el mundo le fascinó bastante, incluyéndome a mí, por supuesto. Love Through a Prism es una serie animada original para la red (ONA) creada por Yoko Kamio y producida por Wit Studio. Plot
The anime begins by showing us a young Japanese girl arriving in London, England. While she wanders around, disoriented, looking for the place where she was told she would be picked up, she traverses the entire city and comes across a young, freckled blond man drawing with charcoal on the pier. The protagonist, Lili Ichijoin, is drawn to the art of this young man, who treats the girl asking for directions with indifference. The next day, we see her arrive with her friend Dorothy Brown at St. Thomas Art Academy. Her main goal is to become the best artist in the entire academy.
Trama
El anime inicia mostrándonos a una joven chica de origen japonés llegando a la ciudad de Londres, Inglaterra. Mientras busca desorientada el lugar al cual le indicaron que la iban a recibir, recorre toda la ciudad y se encuentra con un joven rubio repleto de manchas dibujando en el muelle con carbón. La protagonista, Lili Ichijoin, se queda atraída por el arte de este joven quien trata de forma apática a la chica que le está pidiendo indicaciones. Al día siguiente la vemos llegar con su compañera Dorothy Brown a la Academia de Arte de St. Thomas. Su objetivo principal es ser la mejor artista de toda la academia.

You probably already know that I’m a total romantic—among all the genres in the anime industry, romance is one of my favorites. That’s why I’m so excited to discover every new romance anime each season. As is the case here, this year kicked off with a bang when it comes to romance, thanks to this anime that Netflix released in its entirety in one day on its platform—and which no one expected to love so much. Because it was released all at once rather than weekly during the first three months, this anime didn’t get the popularity it truly deserved.
But that’s why I’m here—to tell you just how much it’s worth watching, since it’s not like any other generic romance anime. Both its story and its blend of romance, art, and drama are fascinating. It also features unforgettable characters with traits and backstories that make them even more interesting. Besides that, it avoids the typical clichés found in other generic RomComs that only serve to give us repetitive, absurd, and highly predictable moments. Its story, on the other hand, is set in a bygone era—the 20th century.
Seguramente ya sabrán que soy todo un romántico, de entre mis géneros favoritos que existen en esta industria del anime, el romance es uno de mis favoritos. Es por eso que me alegra mucho poder conocer cada anime nuevo de romance en cada temporada. Como lo es en este caso, este año empezó con todo en cuanto a romance se trata con este anime que Netflix estrenó por completo un día en su plataforma y que nadie esperaba que le fuera a encantar tanto. Debido a su emisión inmediata y no semanal durante los primeros tres meses, este anime no consiguió la popularidad que se merecía realmente.
Pero para eso estoy yo para decirles lo mucho que vale la pena verlo ya que no es como cualquier otro anime de romance genérico. Tanto su historia como su mezcla de romance con arte y drama es fascinante. También tiene personajes inolvidables y con características e historias que los hacen más interesantes. Aparte de esto, no tiene clichés típicos que sí tienen otros RomCom genéricos que solo sirven para darnos momentos repetitivos absurdos y bastante predecibles. Su historia, por otro lado, está ambientada en una época pasada como lo fue el siglo XX.

As you read above, the plot revolves around a young Japanese woman who decides to travel to London to study art at one of the most prestigious art schools in the world. Because of a promise she made to her mother, Lili Ichijoin will have to become the best artist in the entire school. This becomes a huge challenge when she realizes that the best artist there right now is a British man from a prestigious family named Christopher “Kit” Church. By the way, this is the same young man Lili met at the beginning when she was looking for directions in the city.
So these two young art students start out as rivals as they get to know each other and learn from one another. However, due to their differences of opinion, obligations, and some unfortunate events, this couple will have to overcome various challenges over the years before they can finally be together. But they’re not like any other teenage or young adult romantic couple we see in most RomCom anime. In the case of Lili and Kit, we see a rather remarkable development over the course of this anime’s 20 episodes.
Como ya leyeron arriba, su trama trata de una joven japonesa que decide viajar a Londres para estudiar arte en una de las academias más prestigiosas que existen. Debido a una promesa que le hizo a su madre, Lili Ichijoin tendrá que convertirse en la mejor artista de toda la academia. Esto se vuelve un desafío enorme al darse cuenta de que el mejor que existe actualmente es un británico de familia prestigiosa llamado Christopher “Kit” Church. Por cierto, este es el mismo joven que Lili conoció al principio cuando estaba buscando indicaciones en la ciudad.
Así que estos dos jóvenes estudiantes de arte empiezan siendo rivales mientras se conocen y aprenden el uno del otro. Sin embargo, debido a sus diferencias de opinión, obligaciones y algunos eventos desafortunados; esta pareja tendrá que pasar por diversos desafíos durante años para que finalmente lleguen a estar juntos. Pero no es como cualquier otra pareja de romance adolescente o juvenil que vemos en la mayoría de animes RomCom. En el caso de Lili y Kit vemos un desarrollo bastante notable durante los 20 episodios que posee este anime.

Especially in the case of the protagonist, we see a truly remarkable development since her first trip to London. The plot revolves mainly around Lili’s efforts to fulfill her dream of becoming an artist and her struggle against the natural talent possessed by great geniuses like Kit, for example. That’s why we see her fighting, learning, and striving every day to improve her art and take first place. Her story is a perfect example for anyone seeking to fulfill a dream in their life but whose limitations or lack of ability make it difficult to reach the top.
In real life, too, there are talented people we’ll all have to face if we want to succeed in what we hope to do with our future. Some dreams seem hard to make come true, but it’s all a matter of time, effort, and dedication. Just like Lili, who sacrificed everything and moved abroad to fulfill her dream, we, too, have to figure out what we’re willing to sacrifice in order to make our dreams come true. On the other hand, there’s Kit, a genius who draws just for fun or because he enjoys it.
Sobre todo en el caso de la protagonista vemos un desarrollo más que notable desde su primera vez viajando a Londres. La trama gira mayormente en Lili intentando cumplir con su deseo de convertirse en una artista y su lucha contra el talento natural que poseen grandes genios como Kit, por ejemplo. Es por eso que la vemos luchar, aprender y esforzarse cada día para mejorar su arte y conseguir el primer lugar. Su caso es un ejemplo perfecto para todo aquel que busca cumplir con un sueño en sus vidas y sus limitaciones o poca capacidad les dificulta llegar a esa cima.
En la vida real también hay gente talentosa con la que cualquiera de nosotros tendremos que enfrentarnos si queremos llegar a tener éxito en lo que deseamos hacer con nuestro futuro. Hay sueños que parecen difíciles de hacer realidad, pero todo es cuestión de tiempo, esfuerzo y dedicación. Así como Lili quien sacrificó todo y se mudó al extranjero para cumplir con su sueño, nosotros también tenemos que ver qué podemos sacrificar a cambio de hacer nuestros sueños realidad. Por otro lado, tenemos el caso de Kit, un genio que solo dibuja por diversión o porque le gusta.

Despite being the son of a wealthy and powerful family, his life hasn’t been the happiest one could imagine since he lost his mother. His cold, apathetic, and detached personality causes problems with Lili at first, but later, as he learns more about his family and his past, everything starts to make sense. Even so, certain decisions Kit makes call into question his friendship with both our protagonist and the rest of his classmates and friends at the art academy. He’s not just a man of few words who does whatever he wants, but someone with feelings and a rather admirable sense of justice and responsibility.
The anime also features other characters who stand out on their own and are easy to recognize and relate to in one way or another. It also includes historical elements that influence the plot in certain ways and introduce twists that give the story a dramatic and bittersweet tone. I like how they develop this story—without rushing it too much—and by giving us funny, powerful, and emotional moments at just the right times. It’s an anime I personally recommend to everyone; whether you like romance or not, you have to watch it to understand what you’re missing.
A pesar de ser hijo de una familia millonaria y poderosa, su vida no es de las más felices que se puedan imaginar desde que perdió a su madre. Su personalidad fría, apática y desinteresada le trae problemas al principio con Lili, pero luego cuando conoce más sobre su familia y su pasado, todo termina teniendo sentido. Aún así, ciertas decisiones que toma Kit pone en tela de juicio la amistad que tiene tanto con nuestra protagonista como con el resto de compañeros y amigos que tiene en la academia de arte. No solo es un chico con pocas palabras y que hace lo que le da la gana, sino alguien con sentimientos y un sentido de justicia y responsabilidad un tanto respetable.
El anime también tiene a otros personajes que resaltan por sí mismos y que son fáciles de reconocer e identificarse de alguna manera u otra. También tiene elementos históricos que influyen de cierta manera con la trama y nos trae ciertos giros que le dan ese tono dramático y agridulce a la historia. Me gusta cómo desarrollan está historia, sin apresurarse tanto y dándonos momentos graciosos, fuertes y emotivos a su debido momento. Es un anime que recomiendo personalmente a todo el mundo, te guste o no el romance, tienes que verlo para que comprendas lo que te estás perdiendo.

Not only are its story and characters fantastic, but so are the art and audiovisual elements of this anime. Wit Studios did a spectacular job producing this original anime by blending various elements and art styles in a way that looks stunning in the series. Starting with the highly distinctive character designs, the bright, warm, and varied color palette, and the drawing and art styles they employ—it’s all fascinating. Since the creators are artists themselves, the style takes full advantage of the opportunity to experiment with different types of art.
We see this variety of art styles not only in the paintings and artwork created by the characters we meet in this anime, but the series itself also showcases certain drawing and artistic styles within the animation itself. The shots, locations, spaces, and views we see throughout the episodes are impressive. The way the entire city of London was drawn and constructed is fantastic, not to mention the countryside and other landscapes. I also really like the fluidity and variety of styles and visual effects in the anime.
No solo su historia y personajes son fantásticos, sino también el arte y apartado audiovisual que posee este anime. Wit Studios hizo un trabajo espectacular con la producción de este anime original debido a que mezcló varios elementos y estilos de arte de una forma que se ve impresionante en esta serie. Empezando por el diseño de los personajes tan característicos, la paleta brillante, caliente y variada de colores que posee y los estilos de dibujo y arte que manejan es fascinante. Al tratarse de artistas, el estilo se aprovecha de la oportunidad para experimentar con distintos tipos de arte.
Esta variedad de estilos de arte no solo lo vemos en las pinturas y obras que realizan los personajes que conocemos en este anime, sino que también la misma obra nos deja ciertos estilos de dibujo y artes en la propia animación. Los planos, lugares, espacios y las vistas que vemos a lo largo de los episodios es impresionante. La forma en la que toda la ciudad de Londres fue dibujada y construida es fantástica, eso sin contar los campos y demás vistas. La fluidez y la variedad de estilos y efectos visuales que tiene el anime también me gustan bastante.

It’s literally like watching an excellent audiovisual spectacle without a single bad or boring episode that leaves you indifferent in any way. The anime also has excellent sound effects. But what I liked most is that CGI was almost never needed to animate anything. Also, the way they use colors and the contrast between colorful, cold, or dark and colorless settings give the series that unique touch, as it manages to visually convey everything this story tells us. The soundtrack, of course, is top-notch, complementing the visuals perfectly. In short, this is the best romance anime worth watching.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating in the romance, comedy, and drama genres.
Literalmente es como ver un espectáculo audiovisual excelente sin ningún episodio malo o aburrido que te deje indiferente de alguna u otra manera. El anime también tiene excelentes efectos de sonido. Pero lo que más me gustó es que casi nunca se necesitó de CGI para animar algo. También la forma en la que utilizan los colores y la diferencia de los escenarios coloridos, fríos o oscuros y sin color le dan ese toque único a la obra ya que consigue transmitir de forma visual todo lo que nos cuenta esta historia. La banda sonora, cómo no, es de lo mejor, sumado a lo visual. En fin, este es el mejor anime de romance que vale la pena ver.
Personalmente, le doy una merecida calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de romance, comedia y drama.
